Off on my holidays in 3 hours time, going to a town just outside Madrid for a 4 day bull festival then on to Seville for a couple of nights then down to the Algarve for 4 nights to finish it off but before that tonight I had the small matter of my club's second last North Northumberland League match.
We went into tonight's match 14 points clear of our nearest rivals Bamburgh and we were looking to pick up 6/7 points that would leave us 4/5 points to get next week to reach our target of 11 points over the last 2 games to clinch the league.
My bunch of heroes only went and managed a superb 9-3 win at the notoriously difficult hunting ground that is 4th placed Burgham Park with 5 games going up the last and none of my boys losing and that coupled with our nearest rivals Bamburgh only winning 10-2 meant that we clinched the league tonight with a game to spare.
It is all the more sweeter that we managed to do it tonight as I, as team manager, had buggered up the dates of my holiday thinking that the league season would have finished tonight and not next week so I thought I was going to miss us clinching the league title.
I'm as proud as punch of my team and they are certainly by far in a way the best squad of players that i've ever had the pleasure to manage indeed our top team consisted of a +2 handicapper,scr,scr,scr,1 and a 2 handicapper with our 3 reserves all being off 2 handicap also and I as one of those reserves only playing around 8 games over the season.
They're a special bunch of lads with the 4 youngsters in the team being the real plus point this season as the 4 combined have a handicap totalling +1...not bad as the eldest is 20...and the banter throughout the 17 week season has been priceless and been one of the keys to our success.
We are also in the semi final of the league cup so an historic league and cup double could be on the cards.
Anyhow i'm going to get myself totally rubbered tomorrow night and bask in the glory with a San Miguel in my hand whilst planning the makeup of the team for our Cup assault like every top gaffer should do.
