Got an email on Thurs from Greenkeeper, advising us that course had finally re-opened - been closed since early Dec at least.
Temp greens, temp tees, blah blah, but open, at last.

So, Popped down yesterday for an hour (as HID was doin mi' ed in), fully expecting it to be wet, and not too enjoyable, and my game to be just as wubbish after not swinging a club since early Nov.

Well, Course was not only pretty dry, but all normal greens in play, and most Tees too......unbeleivable really.

More unbelievable was the fact that my game still seemed to somewhere close to where I left it last Autumn !!

HID still did mi' ed in when I got back, and whilst out last night......could be a long day..........

I had the opposite experience as I went to the course yesterday to be told its on 18 winter greens and 14 short tee's but ..... (I have never heard this one before) ..... you had to tee the ball for EVERY shot except putting.

I went home.

Don't blame you. That tells me.the course was in no condition to be open

If your weather has been anything like ours through here last week, then the course shouldn't really have been playable and remained closed.

Had lunch at our club yesterday but no-one out on the course as it was so wet underfoot.

Our course was so windy yesterday players teeing off on the 4th with a block or a strong fade were ending up in front of the 1st tee. Waiting for them to clear made the round even slower as almost 1 in every 4 ball seemed to do it!

I got through 5 holes one over par and gave up, it was so windy my ball started moving about on the green and I just wasn't in the mood for the conditions even when I was playing very well!

It was a little wet underfoot too, the course being on chalk means it is never too wet but that was pretty bad in some places.

Not conditions for fun IMO

Our course has been open for the last couple of weeks and is playing alrght. Very windy conditions but still played well... The back 9 gets a bit waterlogged but all in all pretty decent. Dont know about teeing up every shot though, course shouldn't be open imo

When I played with Imurg on Friday at Aylesbury Park, all the greens were open and not in too bad condition .

However where they had prepared Temp Greens, these areas were surrounded by standing water and also on the greens themselves with the holes being full up with water.

Go gawd help us if we ever have to play off Temps because of rain

Fragger

I played on Thursday for the first time since the end of November and was very surprised at how good the greens were considering the weather we have had. We had 18 full greens and only one hole with a forward tee (25 yds).
Played really well which was a bonus, 4 over after 9 and 9 over after 15 (missed out 3 holes). The new swing seems to be working well and can't wait to get out again tomorrow.

Played this morning, course was sodden but hardly any standing water, the drainage work they did in the autumn paying dividends. Full greens and tees, good craic and played well (82 in strong wind is good for me) so a thoroughly enjoyable morning.

Diy in the house means a not so enjoyable afternoon!!

My old club had that you either played from a mat or teed it up

I played today, course was bone dry despite plenty heavy rain and the recent now thawed heavy snow, greens were superb and it was normal tees and full greens.

Oh the joy of links golf! :D

No idea what condition the course was in as I've not been down this weekend but it coped really well last weekend with the rain we'd had in the week. I'm hoping the strong winds this weekend will help dry it out and with the forecast looking half decent it should be good next weekend

I've never understood how teeing the ball for every shot helps protect the course - just go and take a look at the tee boxes at all the divots. Plus, if I was hitting a short/mid iron the tee would barely be above ground anyway, so what's the point?

Played today full greens and tees. Greens were as soft as i have played on for a while but no surface water, and fairways were running well. Looks we are due a dry spell so hopefully course will recover further. Very grateful we have a sand based course and not clay. ;)

Played yesterday, course was ok the greens where shocking though as the greenkeepers haven't moved the pins all week and put them in positions that can only be described as Major day positions but thats what you get with greenkeepers who don't play golf.
