What’s the worst display of etiquette you have ever witnessed?

I played one day in our roll up swindle. There were 4 of us out together, including a father and son, the son was about 18 at the time and they were both single figure players. I was off about 15 h/c and the format was, individual stableford , pairs and team. I was paired with the son who never spoke a word to me from the 1st tee off until 3 holes from home. He then said "you've got a shot on this hole it would be useful if you used it". I birdied the hole and he then said " why didn't you do that before" I just looked him in the face and heard myself utter "cos you never ******* asked" (sorry mods)

Last week he played on the European Tour and he's still a knob!

Go on...spill the beans??? :smirk:

I always used to get drawn in the medal with this obnoxious self centred miserable moody and a down right cheating toe rag (thats being polite) ... always got his score wrong.... marked his ball incorrectly... played other peoples balls or the wrong ball... never spoke to anyone ...for some reason he wanted to always play at the same time as me.... any way one round I'd had enough of his lack of understanding of the rules and general etiquette (to many points to mention) and Id given up bothering to mention or correct him on that round so I suggested he buy a book and a video and start again and perhaps if he was going to play in a comp he might want to know what some of the rules are before teeing off and also learn to count!!! .... He was complete rubbish at the game which isnt the point I know but had lots of money (big time lawyer) never got under 110 but thought he was the next Rory Mc... all the gear no idea etc etc. Anyway to cut a long story short we had a face to face row on the 12 green after he claimed he had a 5 when he really had a 7 ( I reminded him of the 3 off the tee and the double hit in the bunker he thought I didnt see ).....he lost it and we had a full on face to face and it v nearly ended in fisticuffs!! I begged him to have a swing!!!! :) He stormed off the course and reported me to the Pro and even called the police to report me for verbal assault!!!! I p*ssed myself laughing when the Pro asked me what happened and of course the police told him to grow up....He was of course at this stage as popular as a fart in a space suit and v well known to everyone in the club. ....He never was seen again at this course.... but I do believe he's became a member at a certain Bearwood Lakes for a while ...!!!!. :)

It could be turned into a separate thread as a 20 questions sort of thing :)

I'm going to narrow this down;

List of young(ish) English European players - will start with them but can change if chrisd is not english

could be;
Jason Timmis
Daniel Brooks
Chris Lloyd
Luke Goddard
Matthew Southgate
Matthew Nixon
Tom Lewis (surely not, he came across well at the Open when he played with Tom Watson)
Tyrell Hatton (turned pro +4 as a 20 year old - handy player!!!)

right, that's the list I think we can narrow it down to

I was playing with the junior captain and he lost his ball, we looked for the standard 5 minutes then declared it lost. The play was very slow so while we were waiting to tee off we had another look for his ball to no avail, this bloke in the 4 ball behind came charging forward and absolutely lambasted the junior captain for taking too long looking, it was so out of order, one of the guys in our group leant in and said " we'll report this behaviour when we get back" I looked back a few holes later and he'd walked in, I've never spoken to him since.

I was in a four ball in the pouring rain with 3 people I didn't know, after 7 holes they announced they were walking in, when I protested one guy said " there's a 3 ball behind, wait for them"

It took our 3ball 4hrs 10mins to get round today. Got stuck behind a 4ball that had no intention of waving us through😡
& they all ad their shirts tucked in,couldn't Adam n Eve it:confused:

Given the self-confidence - bordering on arrogance - and drive required to make it as a Pro golfer, it's not difficult for guys on the way up to come across as knobs!

Unfortunately, some don't change.

I was playing in a big charity day. I was in the middle of the field waiting to tee off with another 3 guys and 6 or 7 four balls behind us when a member and his mate just walked onto the tee and started to prepare to go. I was playing with the organiser and he politely asked them what they were doing. The mouthy one announced that he was a member and because the 10th was busy where did we want him to go! I wanted to tell him in no uncertain terms where he could go but had to bite my lip in respect for the organiser.

I am guessing that it is Tyrell Hatton.
Anyone with a name like that has to be a Hobnob.

Was he conceived in a bunker at Tyrells Wood GC perhaps?

BTW Great reply Chris.
I can never do that off the cuff.

People who carry on hitting balls into the driving net next to the first tee when you are addressing your ball ready to play. It's not rocket science to look up and notice.

The woman who let her dog crap all over the 3rd tee a few months back would come close especially after she went and told a version of what happened to the club manager that started once upon a time. Then again, his comment was priceless in that he didn't know who to believe, someone who was trespassing on the course or a 15-year club member. He lost all respect with his entire greenkeeping staff that day and recently left the club.

Thanks Doon

No one has guessed the name and I wouldn't name him anyway. He may not have been a gent but I can still be one

I play at a local honesty box municipal, so I see it all

8 balls going out with barely a bag of clubs between them! (And probably only having payed for 1, if any)
Guys wearing vests, surf shorts and flip flops!
Shouting, swearing, no one shouting fore as a ball whistles past your head

Think I may join a club soon

On some courses - Royal Melbourne is one - this is the preferred route! That's because there is more likely to be wear damage from trolleys/trundlers puller/pushed around greens/fringes than across the green itself!

A mate was similarly horrified when his host at RM did the same, until told why.

Same at Bandon Dunes- starter told us to take trolley straight across green.
It felt SO wrong!

Worst I've been subject to is after hitting a beauty of a drive to the middle of the fairway and walking after it - some guy from the adjacent hole came storming down our fairway and walked straight up to my ball. He took a long look at the ball (so could definitely see my markings on the ball), picked it up and threw it into the rough before storming closer towards us, apparently in search of his ball.

I obviously was not best pleased, and suggested that he should have left the ball where it was. He plainly disagreed, and labelled me as one that "can't use new technology" before storming off swearing further.

Fortunately, I don't think he found his ball, and we didn't see him on the course again!
