While putting out on the 18th green during the Nairnshire County Championships on Saturday, 3 American guys just walked across the middle of the green while talking away to themselves on the way to the practice ground. I was in the middle of lining up my birdie put and one of our 3 ball was actually putting. We both gave them a telling, but as we walked off a couple more did the same thing as the group behind played there approach shots.

I do wonder sometimes what goes though people’s heads.

Anyone else got similar tales?

I played a few years ago with a hot headed fruitcake. He was furious after a missed putt, went on to the next tee, duck hooked the ball, lost it. Swung the driver round to throw it, let go nd it missed me by inches, lodged in a tree and he stormed off. Later I heard he had signed up for anger management course.

That sounds like the Yanks didnt realise what was going on, or engrossed in their chat. I havent met anyone that plays golf who would be that stupid and have nada manners or common sense....especially Americans

Both of mine as a junior;

1) Mixture of etiquette and rulesy stuff but playing in the semi-final of the junior knockout tournament and as the lad as I was playing had a caddy (his mate), I asked a friend of mine to walk around with me for some company. The guy I was playing was maybe 17 when I was 13 ish so I was a bit intimidated! I threw my ball to my friend to clean it on my towel and when he threw it back, it landed 3ft short of me and rolled to my feet. My opponent, picked his marker up and claimed the hole as he said we were 'testing the green'. Luckily it didn't cost me too much as I still took the match but was my first experience of that sort of situation.

2) Big junior tournament, I was off about 6 and playing with a lad off 2 and one off 4. The 4 handicapper missed a putt and after he'd holed out, smashed his ball in frustration. I was stood on the other side of the green waiting to go to the next tee. The ball caught me on the fly, just at the joint of my knee and shin. Not even so much as an apology afterwards.

I hate this game sometimes!

the list could be endless, talking as your opponents take their shot, using a phone on the course, having your shirt out of your trousers/shorts,not wearing proper golf attire,2 players using one bag of clubs, going out of turn on the tee, closest to the pin not removing the flag or removing the flag then just dropping it on the green, not saying hello to the captain when you see him (once only then use his name),or like the bloke I played against at SUTTON HALL keep belching and breaking wind just when I was about to putt, soon stopped when on the fourth green I stood up and demanded he farted or burped before I lined my putt up and I would wait till he had done it,stood there for 5 mins waiting before he apologised.

Played a scratch league match a few years ago, the young lad i played against took a full blooded swing at the tee marker with his brand new Titleist 905 driver after he sliced his tee shot OOB. He managed to knock the tee marker about 30 yards down the fairway without breaking his driver !
Two holes later he got his phone out of his bag and took a picture of his ball after it had become plugged in the face of the bunker ?

In a friendly club match one of the opposition team had a long putt on the 17th green to avoid a defeat. He deliberately hit his putt far too hard down the green to hit our players carry bag which was on the fringe. He then claimed the hole.
Our guys had the good sense to concede the match. The meal was taken in a very quiet mood [minus our two players] and our club then wrote to inform the other club we did not wish to play any more 'friendly' matches against them.

Playing with a forumer who will remain nameless, he shanked one out of a bunker, and then then threw his club at me as if it was my fault.

Playing in an open at Woburn, one of my partners missed a short putt and blobbed the hole. He then smacked the ball with a full swing of the putter, and took a big divot out of the green, a few inches from the hole and right on my line.

Playing at Southport & Ainsdale we were held up by a fourball on every shot. At one point there were 20 players on the same hole. On finishing the hole, one of the players took his ball back into a bunker and played out again. At this point we 'requested' to be let through, and after a very heated argument we did. We finished the round at least an hour in front of the fourball, but they hadn't let any of the other groups behind them through.

Personally I don't see a problem if your shirt is or isn't tucked in.

I think you need to take a good hard look at the players you choose to play with

That bit in bold is not a breach of etiquette, against the dress code at some clubs, granted, but nothing to do with etiquette.

Playing an inter-club league match my opponent and caddy probably said half a dozen words all the way round. We were stood on the 17th tee, me being 1up. I put my tee shot in the middle of the fairway, and he carves his into the cabbage down the right. We walk down there and look for his ball. No joy, so both him and his caddy walk back to the tee and reload whilst I wait by the side of the fairway at driving distance. He carves his 2nd ball into the cabbage, then him and his caddy turn round and walk off the course leaving me stood up the fairway. No walk up the fairway to shake hands etc. By the time I reach the bar they're sat with the rest of their team supping...

Me, gently steaming at gas mark 7, proceed to tell him exactly what I think of him and his behaviour whilst our Captain and their Captain try and calm things down. It was an interesting post match meal...

 not having your shirt in the worst display of etiquette you have ever seen?! What about the ladies?

On Saturday we were playing the third and my mate was playing out of the trees when a ball shot past his face under the peak of his cap. They guys behind claimed they didn't know we were there but they had to wait on the second tee for us to clear the green and my mates bag was in plain view from the tee.

Worst I had was as about a 13 yr old. Was playing with my dad against 2 of my dads friends. I had a 3 foot putt to half a hole, about the 4th. I missed it and one of the guys came over with a fist pump right in my face whilst shouting 'come on'. This was a friendly match and completely uncalled for. Refused to play with him ever since.

A few weeks ago we were playing our 9th a Par 5 back to the clubhouse when on mass 12 guys stared walking in front of the green to the practise strip totally oblivious to what was going on,they were lucky as one of my mates had hit his shot and it flew over there heads.

We all shouted fore but not one batted an eye lid and you guessed it they were Americans not a clue about what was going on ,same on the 10 th tee getting photos taken besdide the signs when we were teeing of the thing was it was inter club match against a twinned club playing against our committee who said nowt as they were spending a fortune in the shop and over the bar.

whilst playing with my brother and cousin (wearing a pink top) at my brothers place, a call came out, "oi pink top" ! we all looked around to see a young lad mooning him!

luckily it was just a local skip rat and not anyone actually playing!
