Price includes Caddy - even if you don't take one.

Allow 20-40 for tip and about £6 for halfway house food if you do take one though.

One-off? Maybe, but there's better value around - Berkshire, St George Hill, Sunningdale even!

The 4 Ball has already been bought by someone so it's only Wentworth.

Hard to understand the general negativity to playing the course (more or less few changes happened) that the great Els dominated on in the matchplay. Mind you I'm in a place that hasn't had any significant rainfall for far too many months.

It was definitely one that was on my bucket list of courses to play if the chance arose, and I really enjoyed it, the experience, though can understand folks having a different opinion, I guess especially if weather is going to be an issue maybes.

For me, in this particular case, it's not about "Value". More the History of the place and what's gone on before.
And also, who would not want to play out of those cavernous bunkers?

The West course is fine if you want to play a course for the history (Matchplay, BMW etc) but for a lot of golfers even off the yellows it is a long way and for me at least, three or four of the par fours were out of range even with two great shots. I would rather play Sunningdale, Berkshire or West Hill

When I first played the West course, I hit a great drive over the trees on 12, perfect 3 wood just short of the green, chipped up to a few feet, and just missed the birdie putt. That was until I realised off the yellows it was a par 4, and my bogey without a shot got me one point.:(

That's a pretty good attitude.

Best way to play it for reasonable money is via your own clubs Charity Auction! Unless you can get a freebee Corporate!

There's a bunkers on the 2nd that I'm not keen on! But the Front right is a great intro! Right of 8 is a killer and you don't want to know about the one long and left on 16! The ones right/long on 18 can be deadly too!

Relatively easy course if you plot your way around properly. I shot 37 points first time around - no blobs. But a long slog! Not all holes are 'great' but Par 3s are really good and plenty of other very good holes. No poor ones! 7 is a bit Marmitey though. Greens are unique and take a bit of getting used to.

I found the bunker on 17.

Not a lot of people know there is one, but on the corner of the dog leg on the right in the trees is an old disused bunker. Strange that I should find it.

You have got to be joking ? No, not any where near my top 20 courses played. The West is a long slog in winter/spring, well for me any way, perhaps not for the average forumer. Driver, three wood to most of the par 4's:( I prefer the East anyway, but personally think the West is one of the most over hyped courses around. Play Hankley for less than half that, and play a classic heathland course.

What he said! The doddery old fol makes sense once in a while! :D

I have played it twice and while a great experience, it is not worth the money. The first is a great hole and the stretch from 7 - 13 is very good, but the rest is far less special. The East is a lovely layout on the best part of the property - and with a thorough renovation, particularly New bunkers true to Harry Colt style, it could be a chunk better still - and it is much more charming than the West. The Edinburgh is also a nice track. All told, Wentworth is a special place to go, just overhyped and way overpriced - and, hand on hart, if offered a choice of a day at Sunningdale, Swinley, St George's Hill, The Berkshire, Hankley Common or Wentworth, Wentworth would be choice number six.

Played both courses a few years ago on a visit to the UK, West Course you have to go for it, tough track mind, but you gotta go for it.

No you don't, it is very average. Much better courses for less money.

I definitely would - as a one off. After spectating at the BMW PGA over the last 5 years it would be great to walk and play the same course as the Pro's. Not from the back tees though!

That's the reason I had to play it. It was just before the changes were made and I played to my handicap, finishing the last 3 - par bogie par I was well pleased as the driver was on the naughty step and I only used a 3 wood

Not quite correct!

DEEEEEP in the trees!!

Agree about the vfm - so yes, choice #6 quite reasonable. Can't see what's wrong with 14 though (except maybe 1 joke pin position) and 15 is a fabulous hole imo! rest aren't shabby either. The finally got 18 right after 3 goes!

East definitely best land - sand as opposed to the West being mainly clay! Some great holes on East and one of the best Golfing views in the South. A few slightly dull holes and agree about the bunkers. It really does get thrashed! It could be made to sparkle, but that ain't going to happen - as it would show The West up! Edinburgh is the toughest challenge imo, even for 'long' hitters. Back 9 is a superb set of challenges.

This. Plenty of better ways to spend £200 on green fees, like £155 at Sunningdale for 36 holes until the end of March, much better day in my opinion.

I'd second what Homer says; it's fine if you want to walk in the footsteps of giants, but unless you hit it like a giant it's a long slog, and I think there are far more enjoyable days out for the money & for my game.

not for me no, not sure Id pay that in the height of summer and weather risk makes it worse imo. Plenty of decent tracks for a fraction of the price, depends how bad you want to play Wentworth really

Simple question

Would you pay £195 to play Wentworth in March ? Yes or no ?

No way. I wouldn't pay £195 to play anywhere but that aside, I played there on Good Friday last year and the condition wasn't great and I know for a fact from one of the green keepers that it is very wet at the moment and has been closed a fair bit recently. If I was going to pay that amount of money, even in the summer, there are better courses in the immediate area than the West Course.

Assuming that's all of March then sounds like a deal, otherwise nope

edit: that and the fact they reckon I'm not good enough to play :(

That handicap restriction level was apparently rather randomly set. Doesn't apply on (at least some) Corporate days!

Handicap restriction and - more directly - Price was set to 'manage' the number of rounds played and the duration/flow of rounds. Price was also set to be comparable with other 'Premium' venues worldwide - Pebble Beach, Torrey Pines etc.
