And it's being seriously considered???? The FA will use the money for "grassroots" stuff. Huh. They mean the elite. Not actual grassroots young lads playing in the local park and dad getting free access to the FA coaching badges up to a level where it will make an actual difference. The FA is an old boys club and always will be. I hate them with a passion.
Also, if the ground is sold, the new ower will want a cut from any future England games and any merchandise sold and will charge the FA for use. Can you see where I'm going with this? Future revenue will be severely diminished. The sale will bring in £800 Million. But only once!

CF - I am no fan of Wembley, I wish they hadn't built it. I would far rather they had kept the cup final in Cardiff and took England games around the country. We have great stadiums all over, we should use them and let see fans from all over England see the national team without it breaking the bank.

Any sale would no doubt build in a period where matches are still played there and how that works is between the two parties. The FA will be going in to the discussions with their eyes wide open, I would hope. After that period they can take the games elsewhere, clubs would bid for the matches etc. Everyone can win still.

Does it matter if future revenue is diminished, its not like they'll have a stadium to maintain so they don't really need as much revenue

Until 10 years ago the FA didn’t own a stadium and then they bought the land at Wembley and then spent a billion building a poor stadium - during the time of the rebuild the England team played at 14 different grounds around the country and it was far better

The FA don’t need a stadium , they can go back to Pre 2000 and pay rent to use Wembley on the odd occasions and also use other stadiums for games sanctioned by the FA

It’s rubbish - the access to it is rubbish , it’s full of corporate , the atmosphere is poor within it - it’s better for concerts - for a stadium that cost over a billion its a poor one - compare that to all the other new builds and it’s not great at all

I am up for selling all national stadiums to not only invest in the game but also to allow teams to play around the country. Would have no objection at all to the sale of Wembley or, in fact, the sale of Twickenham or other similar grounds. Perhaps once Wembley is sold it will go back to being used for special occasions rather than having as many matches as possible there to pay for its upkeep.

Seems odd to sell it having relatively recently bought the site and redeveloped. Unless they can't service the debt or the "per match" lease costs are so much more financially efficient.

For many, playing the game, playing in a match there is the ultimate dream...

Why ? The cup finals will still be there - the FA didn’t own Wembley until 2000 and there were no issues with people “being denied a day out “ - Wembley will still host most of the major matches the only ones I expect will be the FA Cup semi finals which will be back to be played at neutral grounds and rightly so and the England team will visit more grounds around the country and actually get more of a connection with more than just people in London and the south
