Managed to get out for 9 holes both days this weekend, weather fantastic but the golf just didn't happen.
Both hubby and I struggled to get any momentum going because of slow play.
Today on some holes we had up to a 15 minute wait before taking our next shot because a 4 ball in front just refused to let us through even though there was a clear hole in front of them  and then the group behind tried moving us along by teeing off prematurely and nearly hitting me.

Our club has dropped it's green fees quite substanially (now £15 for 18 holes) and as a result we have seen an influx of pay and play and with it an increase of the uneducated in golf etiquitte (tracky bottoms & t-shirts, trainers and extremely slow play), by no means am I tarnishing all pay and play golfers with the same brush it's just an observation at my home club.

I know the club is a business but surely when making these offers players should be advised of basic golf etiquitte before play to avoid possible confrontation or am I being too pinickity :D

Good to hear you getting out Barb - even if it was slow.

Every time I here this complaint about the uneducated player I keep think ing about the method on the continent - a "theory" test!!!!!!

I agree 100% with your view, and do not think you are being overly critical. You have every right to expect the club to enforce, and expect, a good etiquette level. If people are not letting you through it is just plain wrong, and I would most probably have had a word, as like you say the destruction of any possible momentum is highly annoying. When I have to wait a long time to play a shot I start thining about lots of irrelevent things and start trying to over complicate the shot and resultingly duff it more times than not.

Look on the bright side though, I was stuck indoors at work on my feet all day for 9 hours yesterday and 7 hours today- leaving me no time at all to think about getting a game in :)

I tried to get a game yesterday but the world and his wife were out (Ladies invitation to the men and a club match) and the tee was solid from 1.00 until 5.00 and no chance of sneaking of 10 either. Eventually played 9 late last evening. I thought it would be packed to day as we lose a few holes for Royal Ascot to allow helicopters to land and it was the last day until a week tomorrow that the full course was open. Playing in a knockout match we got round in 3 hours and that was playing competitively (i.e. concentrating, marking on greens etc).

Playing on Friday and I'll be surprised if we get held up on our first round at least seeing as we're off at 4.45am

Medal at my place on Saturday. Tee time booked for 11.30. The starter said he's running 20 mins behind. Fair enough...its a nice day. But after questioning it turns out there are two 2-balls in front of us (3-ball)....why not put them together? Also, while on the tee a group of young players were in front of us saying that the starter "let them sneek in because they had been waiting for 45mins". When asked if they had booked a tee time they said no. I found this flipping ridiculous and wanted to go and rip the starter's head off....hardly a good start to a medal.
In the end it a 4 hour medal round, which wasn't too bad....but it did affect my golf (97 gross!).

Have to be honest and say I would have a) told the youngsters to either wait as you were in a competition or learn to book a time like everyone else and b) told the starter you'd be having words with the club if he's not going to enforce the rules.

It sounds like he wasn't up to much if he'd let everything drift by that much

Don't talk to me about slow play. I was getting one of my 3 card rounds for a new handicap in the clubs medal on sunday. And we crawled, especially slow on second shots and the amount of times i changed club and ended up missing the green was silly.

I have being out of competition for a while but i didnt know that women were permitted to play medal comp's with the men?? Any one shed some light?
