I carry my R7 PW as part of my set which is 45 degrees. My Cleveland CG12 52 degree has 10 degree of bounce and my new TM TP Z grrove is 56 degree with 12 degree bounce. I also have a Ben Hogan Apex SW which is 56 degree and 12 degree bounce.

The PW I carry as it is part of my set of irons and it is quite a strong loft so I find it great from 100 yard and in and I can get it to fly lower in windy conditions.

I got the Cleveland as I needed to feel the gap between 45 and 56 degrees. It hits the ball about 85 yards with a smooth 3/4 swing and I use it around the gree for chip and runs that check on the 2nd bounce (great for tight pins where loft isn't an option).

My TM is a new acquisition but I bought it today mainly for the extra stop from the Z grooves and to help get more control out of the sand. It seems to go further than my Ben Hogan (which went about 55 yards with a smooth 3/4 swing) and I'll try it tomorrow and report back

Would be interested to hear how your new wedge goes Homer. Am also looking at potentially buying a new wedge with more agressive grooves to get a bit more stop and would be interested to hear how the Taylormade performs. Been looking at one myself along with the Cleveland CG14 and the MD Players.

I've recently swapped from Callaway to Mizuno on the wedge front mainly because the Callaways had too much bounce.

My X-20 pw is 45 degree - pretty strong loft.

Used to use the Callaway X-tour 50 with 11 bounce but found little chips around the green a tad tricky - found I was thinning too many. Now I've got a Mizuno MPT 51 degree with 6 bounce - much easier to control and much the same distance on fuller shots.

The Callaway 54 degree SW has given way to a Mizzy MPT 56. Similar bounce but a little less loft to make it easier to get out of the bunkers.

The 58 degree X-tour with 11 bounce and MD grooves is gone and replaced but a Mizzy MPR 60 with 5 bounce. I was having trouble getting the Callaway under the ball on delicate shots from the fairway again due to the bounce.

In the rough around the green I can either use the 60 if the lie isn't too fluffy or the 56 from deeper stuff so I don't skim underneath.

I like the idea of these Zip/MD/SM etc grooves as they spin the ball like crazy. I had a go with a mates Vokey Spin Milled 60 and it shredded my Pro V1 in 3 shots. Ok if you're a pro and you get them for nothing . Ordinary grooves cut the ball enough .

Bounce is a very important but often overlooked part of the wedge. Try playing a lob shot with 10 degrees of bounce and you'll know what I mean. There are people who can do it, but us mere mortals should stick to lower bounce for that shot.

i carry 4 wedges my pw is the standard titleist 695cb which i think as 8 degrees of bounce,52 degree vokey with 8 degree which is good for 100 yards and chip and runs,a 56 degree spin milled vokey with 10 degrees which is good for rough and lush fairways where a lower degree of bounce would dig, and a 60 degree spin milled with 4 degrees of bounce which i use for tight lies etc not many full shots,i use my 56/10 for deep wet sand and my 60/04 for compact or fine sand, its always good to have the choice of bounce for differnt weathers etc

I carry three. The PW (46) from my set. A 52* TM Satin and a classic 56* Mizuno SW. None have a great deal of bounce, even the SW sits pretty tight. I only added the 52 recently because the PW from my new irons is just not lofted enough for me.

Hi All
I'm still learning the ropes. Started playing in Sept '07 and have achieved 22.6 hcp.
I've been looking to add a Lob Wedge to my cheap starter clubs but don't have a clue as to what 'bounce' is. I obviously understand the loft bit but what does the bouce relate to?

Would welcome any light-shedding responses.

Thanx :D

I would advise you to think carefully before buying a 60 degree wedge as they are actually quite tricky to use properly around the greens and are easily thinned or fatted. My advice would be to invest in a good quality sand wedge 56 degree or so with a bounce of around 12 degrees which is industry standard and will be adequate in most types of sand.

Sadly the sand wedges that come as part of sets these days are not always the best tool for the job and many (my R7 included) just look ugly. Get a specialist one to do the job. That way you can add a 52 degree instead of a lob and give yourself move armoury for getting close from 75 yards and in and around the green.
