Evening all.....
I have something puzzling me after the last few weeks play.....
Not wanting to start a @*ssing match here but from 105-108 mtrs i use my gap wedge 49 deg....I take a desperate long and deep divot with this and its annoying me....
Should i have my weight spread 50-50 over both feet with this in hand at this distance....
The reason i ask is that i copped this morning that i have my weight about 70-30 favouring my front foot.....would this make me come in very steep?
Just for curiousity as my card was gone to pot this morning i started hitting half shots from the same distance with my PW (43 DEG) an i knocked 3 to within 4 feet of the pins and i stuck another to within a foot. weight spread 50-50..... Should i start using the gap wedge inside 100 mtrs with the curtailed follow through that i use for the pitching wedge...Or am i talking out through my ass :(

If you can hit them that close with a p/w why use anything else :D

I have just started using a new wedge but find it hard to control distance,i think if you use a half swing with a p/w you should have more control than useing a full swing with another wedge.

use my gap wedge 49 deg/snip/PW (43 DEG)

Naffing hell they are strong!!!!! My PW is iirc 47* and gap 52*

Ya chris....there very strong. After playing with them for a bit though im kinda used to the rest of the distances.....
I do get the odd raised eyebrow at times though after people have asked me what club iv hit. :o

I'd generally be looking at a 50/50 weight distribution except for short chips and pitches (under about 50 yrds) when I would favour my front foot a little to get a nice crisp downward stroke.

Sounds like you've found a shot with your PW that works for you from 100 yds. I'd say stick with it. Practise it, perfect it. It'll be a winner for you. If I were you I'd definitely try out the same shot with your GW from closer. If you have perfected that technique I can't see why it wouldn't be just as effective. The alternative is stick with the PW and just shorten the swing even more. Try both.

I think that trying these sorts of "manufactured" shots and trying to perfect them is one of the real fun parts of the game. Once you get within about 100 yrds there's no reason at all why you should always be trying to hit a full shot.

Perhaps bobmac or one of the low h/c guys could offer some more technical advice on how and when to play these kind of shots.
