We ALL know that when the manufacturers promise us the longest and straightest clubs EVER built, we know it's all rubbish. Just the advertising people finding new ways to get us to part with the hard earned.
We all know the new shineys aren't going to make you swing better or play better or spin the ball better or even get the handicap down a few 0. somethings.
Everyone knows in their heart of hearts that the latest new stuff is just a waste of money......don't we?

That's just crazy talk :). If the new stuff does not work who cares it's nice and shiny and that the best reason for buying something.

someone made a post on here recently that i think was the best i've ever heard regarding equip:

if the technology improves year on year and each new edition outstrips the last - why do pros use old edition clubs? i.e. lee westwood using a g10 driver.

It is nice to get new shiny toys though!

The voice of reason.....
But reason spoils the fun of new shineys! And the anticipation that this is the year it's all going to click and then first comp 10 over nett and you realise it is all marketing bumpf. :)

We all know that's the case Bob. The problem is we all think that this may just be the one that really does do as the hype says ;)

we're obviously in denial :)

Excerpt from a cookery forum .....
"is your food bland, drab and over/under cooked?
Then buy the new miracle R11 cooking pot.
It will cook your food perfectly every time and it will even taste better"

Of course we don't Bob, but we like shiney shineys :D

What gets me is that manufacturers marketing are obsessed with length. How about:

"Our latest product. 20 yards shorter than last years model but 40% straighter in tests with tour players"

Would they get the same responce?

Ok Bob - next you'll be telling us that the tooth fairy doesn't really exist!

Go spoil someone else's day!

Just had a look on there

R11 now half price as the R12 pot has just come out. Adjustable handle and food is 17 times tastier.

in the book 'dream on' he mentions an interesting fact - the average club handicap across the UK is 17, same as it was 10 years ago. so even though technology does improve, the average handicap does not. seems to prove OP's point.

I always wonder about this stat. Ok yes the handicap average might still be the same but surely on average the courses have got longer?
