When did this become a problem. Who was the very first guy to think it was ok to shout just after a shot? It had to start somewhere/sometime????

Pain to listen to.

It started with idiots shouting `get in the hole` every time tiger hit a shot now its developed in to all these clowns wanting to get their voice on the TV.

Strange solution would be to cut the microphone sounds for 3-4 seconds post impact.

Once the tools realise their voice isn't going to be on the TV they'll soon stop.

To the OP. Welcome to the forum

Saw Furyk giving one of the fans the eyeballs after his tee shot. All it would take would be one pro to confront the shouter and get a marshall to get rid of them, I guess no-one wants to be that pro.

Wish I could find a video or gif of that. It was a bit like the Drama prairie dog video.

The commentators were discussing how the trend is getting to a point were they are trying to shout earlier and earlier and made the point that it's only a matter of time before it costs someone a major. Unfortunatly I can't see anything being done unless the pro's come out against it or that actually does happen.

Noticed Furyk giving someone a real stare on the 16th or 17th tee. I think Ewen Murray is right when he says that one day someone is going to shout before the ball is hit.

Lets be clear I don't like it, but what instructions do you give the marshals to evict someone who shouted?

Do you evict on certain words? Or just shouting in general?

Best solution I feel is common sense i.e marshals are given the authority to 'warn' someone shouting ridiculous sayings not relevant or in keeping with the golf tournament, if they do it again they are asked to leave (organisers have that right)

SWAT snipers!
Three SWAT snipers in trees around every tee using rubber bullets so when a shout comes they get a rubber bullet in the ribs. Good practice for the SWAT teams and would soon stop the shouting. I accept there might be the odd miss fire but the people around them would soon learn to get out of their way to give a clean shot.:whoo:

it sounds like it's really only one or two shouters each time, although they do it every single time. get in the hole I think is impossible to stop, but it should be straightforward to remove the handful of guys who come out with chewbacca, redonkulous, babba boooey, mashed potato.

justin rose complained at someone being a bit early at a recent tournament. if it's irritating the players surely they can get something done. tournament marshalls seem powerless, maybe its down to the players to get someone to stop it.

no one gets away with it at Augusta. Which is the next major :(

From what I understand, and from what I've heard Butch Harmon say in the past, a lot of folk in the states who attend golf tournaments are not actually golf fans.

I believe he (Butch) called them 'sports fans'?

From what I remember they are folk who go to the golf not as fan, but to be part of the event, drink copiously, and get rowdy and before you know it, you have someone like Rooter hollering at tee shots.

It's not like it's eas to turn them away at the gate either as, I suppose, the revenue from gate receipts goes into the prize funds?

In other words we don't give a monkeys if you like the golf, or are just here for the atomstphere and beer, so long as you pay you $ to get in, you're welcome :mmm:

Hmm, RickG is playing in a comp at my gaff today, i am going to watch him down the 18th later, soooo tempted to give him a "mashed potato"

It would violate their first amendment rights! Every American has the right to shout "mashed potato" at Tiger woods while holding an assault rifle.

And according to these guys who hve probably never been out of their own State (an almost certainly din't have a passport), it' the greatest country on Earth!

Thanks for the 'National Apology' John. There ARE things great about USA, but idiotic, boozed up, Golf 'fans' is not one of them. I hope you don't get to see the equally ugly British equivalent - 'Brits Abroad'. Brits on Golf courses tend to be rather better behaved than those loons though!

Hi John - delighted to see one of our colonial cousins ;) on here - and apology accepted by me unreservedly. A couple on here think it's OK and about 'involvement' and 'will attract folk to the game'. But thankfully they are in the tiny minority. Jim's furious, stoney glare will become famous in the annals...:) Brilliant and spot on Jim (unlucky btw sir - good four days you had).

If it was me I'd be waiting for the shout as I'm addressing the ball - and I expect the players are getting that way. May well be what caused Jim to pull his tee shot a bit. Not good!

As Butch Harmon said - chuck 'em out. Needs stamping on.

A warning on the back of the entry ticket ending 'may be ejected from the course' would give marshals and officials the express power to eject.

Welcome to the forum SCDeac82. Glad to see it is just as annoying to viewers over there but really don't think it will change until the sponsors, marshalls and the PGA get together and drag these idiots out if they shout.

No shouting is tolerated at The Masters.

Thanks for the "Welcomes" guys. Yeah, the Guards at Augusta are the famous (in the U.S.) "Pinkerton" guards, who don't tolerate any nonsense. This weeks tournament is in my home state of North Carolina, up in Greensboro. Hope the tour has thought about the issue. Cheers everyone!:DJB
