All these recommendations look quite expensive.

There are some Bay Hill ones on ebay for about £50. Should I avoid these? They look ok to me, but I know nothing!

I simply don't care how good Galvin Greens are, I will not spend £300 on a pair of trousers and Jacket. Never. If you can't find a set that keeps out the rain for £100 there's something wrong somewhere.I paid less than that on a good set of Proquips off the sale rack. perfect for my needs.

Yeah £300+ is nothing to spend on waterproofs you wear maybe 5 times a year.

Had mine on twice this week so i guess a long dry winter on the cards

I have fj's but the next set will be Galvins.
I reckon I wear the proofs 20 -30 times a year

I got a Nike jacket reduced from about a ton to fifty and it seems good so far, but maybe a bit on the small side. I'm planning on playing a lot this winter so may invest in some Galvins if the Nike is too restrictive

The pro shop at the club is selling the Mizuno rainsuit for a ton.

I only paid just over £200 for my Galvins, and they're not Paclite either!

Try everywhere if you want Galvins. They are very good, and worth looking around for last years models.

Compared to other sports (yachting) technical clothing, the Galvins are resonably priced by comparison. Still doesn't make 'em cheap though.

I have worn waterproofs for my last 10+ rounds of golf. Weather on the west coast of Scotland demands a decent set of waterproofs, I also wear waterproof trousers all year round. If its wet underfoot I put them on, remove my trousers and just wear my boxers underneath.

I agree, you generally get what you pay for however shop about as there are alot of bargains to be found.

If you play alot of golf, then invest in the best you can afford.

I have heard some good things about the Cross waterproofs and remember there was a review in the magazine about their jacket that RGS did. I think they are a bit pricey compared to some makes but it seems that you get what you pay for and they are breathable and quiet.

I have the Cross waterproofs and am very satisfied with them. Did the job today in brutal weather.

Out of interest are they as expensive as I seem to think. I had them down as cheaper than GG but more expensive than Sunderland or Proquip or is it dependant on the style you buy.

Homer--I got them in a sale in Arnotts, large Department store in Dublin, for €80 the set, the RRP was €190, that was around 12 months ago.

One last question. How are the sizes? I am generally a 42" chest & 35" waist, so is that the size I should get, or do I go up a size to allow for the shirt/sweater/tousers underneath? Or is that already factored in to their sizing?

I would say its taylored in fella, I have worn the trousers which I take a large over golf trousers and they are fine but if I suspect rain then I wear then with no trousers underneath and they are very comfy and light, the trousers that is not that I wear the jacket and no trousers .
