Hi all,

Recently celebrated my birthday and I have some money burning a hole in my pocket at the moment.

I'm looking into buying some new waterproofs and I am aware you cannot go wrong with Galvin Green apparel, however these items are outwith my financial budget.

I have £150-£180 to spend and wondered if anyone has bought any of the following and can offer advice on them OR suggest others they own and recommend?

Benross XTEX jacket & trousers

Underarmour Coldstorm jacket & trousers

Stuburt

Sunderland

Nike

Thanks

I have plenty of UA clothing and am a big fan but the waterproof jacket I had from them went back in no time after failing and I know a few others at our club who have them havent been overly impressed. Proquip/Sunderland decent options in that price point

Check out the adidas GoreTex range. Just as good as my GG but around half the price. Clubhouse Direct and Function 18 had last years' range at around £110 for the jacket and £90 for the trousers

Got an email from CGDiscount (http://www.cgdiscountgolf.co.uk/) yesterday who are thoroughly reliable (and not incredibly far from you anyway) advertising 'Waterproof Wednesday'), with 'reductions'. Only suit was a Ping one (or GG). There are almost certainly others that are offering last/this years stock at reduced prices - where the only difference is often colours - so worth a bit of a hunt.

FWIW. I've been totally happy with the performance of my Benross pants - pretty sure they are XTEX. Didn't buy the Jacket (already have several) but know a couple of folk who are happy with theirs.

I'd also add ProQuip and Sunice to that list, though I'm not sure if that matches the price range.

Have a look on the Clubhouse Golf site. They have some cracking ProQuip suits for £129, reduced from £225. I have an older similar suit, and it has been superb. The American Ryder Cup team switched to ProQuip at the Ryder Cup in Wales. If they could keep out the rain that week they must be good.

Just sent the link to a mate that was also put off the Galvin Green suits by the price.

Galvin green may not be out of your range. The "alex" has just been reduced to £199 on alot of sites. Get yourself the usual 10% codes that nock about and £180 might be achievable

For what it's worth I think sunice have gone under but if your in the market and your an XXL online golf have some typhoon trousers for £20

Then you could invest in a better jacket like a galvin or something gore tex

Or check ebay, because sunice have gone under there's lots of deals on stuff like their gore tex jackets etc for £100 odd but sizes are all over the place

From what I remember, Sunice's (Canadian) Parent company (which also did Tommy Hilfiger Golf and other stuff) went bust, but all brands were sold to another Canadian company - quite quickly

There'll still probably be quite a bit of Sunice pre-bankruptcy stock about in the sort of stores that specialise in such (bankrupt stock) goods.

To be fair, they're choice of waterproofs would probably have held up if they hadn't had their names embroidered on the back..........putting a couple of hundred pin holes in your jacket doesn't strike me as a particularly bright idea..........:rofl:
