Oh what an enlightened bunch we are on here. The neanderthal traits always to come back to the surface when women and golf are mentioned in the same sentence. It's 2011 for crying out loud. Get over it. the ladies enjoy their game of golf just as much as you do.

I don't think anyone is saying they don't enjoy it or shouldn't play it but they play a different game. They have different SIs, different par on some long par 4s, a much shorter course and higher handicap limits, I'd have no problem with them playing if the rules were the same but they aren't.

I wouldn't mind betting that most of the ladies at our place wouldn't be able to reach the fairway on our 4th, 12th and 18th tees and can you honestly see them agrreing to play our 1st or 17th from nearly 80yds further back and still calling them par 3s?

Their course is nearly 1000yds shorter and many of them still play off h'caps in the 30s. It is like asking me to play the pro game of a 7500yd course and expecting me to compete, it ain't gonna happen.

It's not sexism or being a neanderthal, it's just a basic acceptance that it isn't the same game.

No bother mate & i do respect that as i say we have a good few women in our society so i do play golf with them with no problems at all. Last outing i played with 2 . not a problem.. im not anti women or anti womens golf here mate , & im not against mixed comps . just not the qualifiers where i play my serious golf , If i strolled out to the club this thursday & requested to play in the ladies comp , what do you think my answer would be ? what would be the reason im not allowed play ?/

Men and women are DIFFERENT, have been for a while now, and its ok to have separate competitions. Like you said, move them back to the white tees for a week or two and see how they like the course then??

Sporting activities are exempt from the equality act. There is no question of clubs being forced to hold mixed competitions if they don't want to. I read the letter and thought it was bonkers to be honest. It's a different game. It's as different as Mens/Womens tennis, football etc and I'm sure the lady who wrote the letter wouldn't want to play in the mens comps at any other sport.

Mixed comps are fine, you know what youre signing up for and can choose to play in them or not, fair play to whoever wins.

What I do object to are some of the women at my club demanding their equal playing rights and wanting to play with the gents on a Saturday, seems a Thursday isnt good enough for them. Of course they refuse to move back to the medal tees and want their own separate standard scratch within the competition, so it seems some do see themselves as more equal than others!

There's nothing more enthralling than watching 4 old bids standing on the tee of the 138yd 10th hole at Highwoods with drivers in their hands.
Especially when you are following them.

i am anti women near me when i am trying to play golf. in the normal everyday life women are great. at work women are fine.

but during golf, no women on the phone or text and certainly none actually hacking around on the course with a 9wood when they are 80 yards from the green.


its painful to watch and the worst thing is they judge you as if you shouldnt be watching them play at this disasterous standard. i dont throw daggers at them because they have trouble with technique cooridnation and speed of play. yet they seem to think its highly rude to stand, watch and wait while they croquet.

afterall i only want to be called through, i dont want to enjoy their personal disaster, heck i dont even want to see the head shaking in disbelief as they shank another 40yards with their custom fit rubber shaft 10wood, the disbelief should only be vented when you actually strike the ball properly.

but no it would be unacceptable for a 4ball to play through their 2ball.

my own capabilities is the only greater burden i have to bear whilst playing golf.

i think a men only golf course would be good, and only unisex clubs if they have a separate par 3 course for the ladies. heck i have no interest in tripping over a tee box half way up the fairway.

hehehe, im not brave, just having a laugh in a antique manner.

i think id actually prefer if my wife was interested in golf rather than opposed to me playing it all the time. on the other hand she is a reasonable being and would practice for a year max at which point if she was still as horrific as most woman golfers ive met she would and should try something else aside from golf.

all the crack, suggested above is meerly notional, i personally like the idea that the woman have the tee on a given day for their own comps. that way you know when to avoid the course.

almost as bad as when they allowed women to become members in 'working mens clubs' back home oop north. the games room was for blokes to smoke, swear and play snooker, dominoes, darts and cards

in reality they needed the women as they were dying on their arse financially. Its the same with golf, they need members male and female, all abilities. theres plenty of moaning about slow 2 or 4 balls on here, if it was just women it would be trebled.

I can have male chauvenistic views in banter but also live in the real world. Times have changed

Golf can be very snobby and elitist when in reality its just a hobby, everyone does it for pleasure. if you know the course is gonna be busy go when you know its quieter. If you know players of lesser ability are going to be playing then play with that in mind and chillax
