Walking off!

hang on Rosecott, I dont mind the wet (being Cumbrian I grew up with plenty of it), I dont mind the cold but when its persisting down and bloody miserable then nah, I am playing for enjoyment and that is not enjoyment.

I am however getting a brolly and brolly holder tgis weekend and going to invest in better waterproofs, just in case.

As for off 28 forever... it feels like it already :D

I dont see the problem. If someone is having such a bad game and are not getting anything from playing on then why should it be a problem if they call it a day? OK, if you are marking a card and there is no one to continue with it then I can see the problem, otherwise is it something to do with honour or what?

I've walked off twice in official competitions.
Once at Crowborough playing in a midweek stableford. Going through a partcularly bad patch, and I mean bad!
Stood on the 5th tee with 1 point (I think) under my belt and carted my drive into the trees, couldn't even get over the ravine. Put another ball down and had another try, exactly the same result. Apologised profusely to my playing partners and walked off. At that moment in time I wanted the ground to open and swallow me up. I hated myself, I hated golf and everything to do with it. I felt bad, but to carry on would have seen me most probably slashing my wrists. Drove home and sulked. Didn't go near the golf course for a couple of weeks but when I did return, they hadn't forgotten. And I got a severe bollocking from the organisers of the competition. I felt a right heel. Embarrassed wasn't the word. I promised never do it again.
Only other time I have ever walked off was during a 36 hole medal at Princes. I have never, ever, played golf so slowly. 2 handicappers waiting for the green to clear 400 yards away before they'd drive. Marking the ball and pacing the greens like it was the Masters. Second round and we came off the 8th green, 10 more holes to play and it was like 7.00pm! We'd been out on the course since about 9 that morning. Over 5 hours to play the first round and here we were, 3 hours into the 2nd round and only played 8 holes!! Feck that. I made my excuses and left. Never went back there so didn't get the expected bollocking.
