Walker Cup

Sam Who?

You can watch the British Masters at Woburn for 25 quid a day

Previous winners of the British Masters at Woburn Golf Club include Major Champions Greg Norman (1981), Lee Trevino (1985), Seve Ballesteros (1986 and 1991), Sandy Lyle (1988), Sir Nick Faldo (1989) Ian Woosnam (1994) and Rose (2002)

30 QUID.. for NO NAMES, NO CHANCE

Shows how litle you know about golf.

2005 - Wilson, Ramsey, Wohlstenholme, Holmes, Kim, Every
2007 - Fowler, Horschel, Johnson, Simpson, Stanley, Horsey, Mcilroy & Willett
2009 - Hoffman, Uihlein, Fleetwood
2011 - Spieth, Cantlay, Henley, Lewis, Sullivan

If i remember rightly, Woods also played in the Walker Cup, so basically the chances of you seeing a future world no1 at the event are very very high. the only other opportunity you will get to watch them over here is the open, and that'll cost you £100+, you'll be walking round with 50,000 other people too

The British Masters will be good, i will be going, but Rose isnt even going and he's supposed to be sponsoring the thing! It will be a second tier event (like the welsh open) within 3 years.

The England Boys captain, Bradley Moore, A 17 year old lad from my club, is now first reserve for the GB&I team. If he gets in I will more than likely go.

Its pretty obvious that A FEW years later may become successful pros MOST WONT and you do not know who they are and statistically you are likely to follow someone around who never makes it on tour.

Tomasz Anderson (Brocket Hall)Gary Hurley (West Waterford)
David Boote (Walton Heath)Nick Marsh (Huddersfield)
Daniel Black (Bedale)Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock (Barassie))
Adam Chaplain (Windermere)Gavin Moynihan (The Island)
Ashley Chesters (Hawkstone Park)Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon)
Bill Bailey (Greystones)Rod Wilkinson (Blairgowrie)
Grant Forrest (Craigielaw)Graeme Robertson (Glenbervie)
Sam Horsfield (Davenport, USA)Jamie Savage (Cawder)
Paul Howard (Southport & Ainsdale)Cormac Sharvin (Ardglass)
Jack Hunt (Naas)Ben Rowe (Rushmore)

Unless you are a follower of amateur golf (I am not)
Or are local to these, then each person here is a NO NAME.

1 or 2 might become names in the future and like when a famous band plays a small venue, everyone will no doubt claim to have been watching the correct amateur years ago..

Having seen at least a dozen top level events, with walker cup players there is NO way i would pay 30 quid to watch.

The British Masters is 100% different, you will recognise the names and have favourites to follow.

In the world of golf, these players are no names, not one person can tell me they know all these players!

Paul Dunne led The Open this year and also played last year at Hoylake (load of support for him there!).
Bradley Neil won the Amateur Championship in 2014 so has also played in The Open and The Masters.
Ashley Chester has won the European Amateur Championship (I think twice).

The US side has
Bryson DeChambeau who's the US Amateur Champion
Jordan Niebrugge who actually beat Paul Dunne to the silver medal in The Open this year.

Many of the golfers playing are actually better than quite a few Tour players, they just chose (like Dunne and Neil) to stay as Amateurs, purely to play in this event.

And if you don't want to pay £30, then fine. Don't pay it. Leaves me some extra elbow room whilst I'm watching them ;)

I can, and to prove it I'll tell you there names without looking :blah:

You are so wrong. you've just said your not a follower of amateur golf so they are no names to you! I dont follow, Horse racing or F1, do i claim that the participants in that are no names? No

If you are a close follower of golf you will know that Ashley Chesters and Paul Dunne were both in the top10 at the open at some point.......so they arent no names are they.

Cormac Sharvin won the Brabazon in July, the biggest amateur Strokeplay event in the UK.
Jimmy Mullen played @ made the cut @ the open in 2013

your argument is flawed.

The % of players in the top 50 of the world ranking at the British Masters will be less than 5%.

I follow golf, top level golf

The Walker Cup is not that

In golf someone types JOHN DALEY and you get a bunch of golfers saying IT IS DALY with the Walker cup lot, no one knows the difference hence they are NO NAMES.

The odd person picking out a couple of examples does not do much to change that

It's not exactly cracking value.

They should be encouraging as many people to attend and cheap tickets help this.

Was it a tenner for the Monday at the open this year?

Walker Cup is top golf

One of the biggest and most prestigious event in golf

£10 or £15 and I might of thought about Going. £30 No chance.

It might be the Walker cup but I don't know any of the players and I expect most of the other attendees don't either, I'm sure it'll be a pleasant enough day out but tbh I'd be just as happy watching the Final knockout of a local Club Champs.

They probably would of taken more money over the weekend if they'd of charged £10 with the certain increased attendances & Parking etc.

Pure greed IMO

Too expensive!

We're off to the Portuguese Masters. €50 for the four days + the pro-am. £180, inc. flights, for 5 nights in a decent hotel by the marina in Vilamoura.

It does seem steep at first glance but considering you get a full day of international sport perhaps it is better value than most are saying. I'm not a fan of amateur golf and and wouldn't know any of these players if I stood next to them on a putting green but that doesn't mean it won't be a fantastic show case of emerging talent. I often watch non-league football. These players aren't household names (some not even in their own house :D) but it is good honest graft. I see a similarity, although most non-league tickets are definitely not £30

Same thoughts as everyone we know Dave.

Exactly this.

The walker cup is the absolute pinnacle of the amateur game. Many of the worlds greatest players have waited to turn pro until after the walker cup just to experience it. £30 for 36 holes of golf with some of the worlds best amateurs who will no doubt compete and win at the highest level is reasonable value.

I agree it's not cheap, but it's acceptable.

There is plenty doubt, just making the Walker cup team does not mean any of them will become major champs ever, its the main team event in the amateur game, there is a heck of a leap to the RYDER cup and PRO golf.

10 quid strikes me as a fair price for this, 30 quid WAYYY too much

£30 for a whole day of sport is good value. Compare that to premier league tickets, for 90 minutes action
