Walker Cup

Was going too, how much is it? I think I recall Iain say it's £30 ?

Yep, it's £30 and that's what's putting us off. Oh, and we are also shut for the majority of two days whilst we have "delegates" playing plus no other arrangements set up for us.

seriously!

£30 to watch amateurs is ludicrous. Just go to any county meeting or local scratch comp if you want to see people you've never heard of playing very good golf.

£30 quid is steep, but I fancy Dechambeau, Neibrugge, Dunne and Chesters are worth watching...a local scratch comp, I think not!

I thought £30 seemed like a good deal for a day worth of golf. Especially when u consider you'll be able to get closer to the action than normal. Yeah certainly maybe some people won't have herd of most. But I would have though anyone like me that watches golf week in, week out and keeps up to date on things would know at least a few names. Considering a few of the Americans played in some PGA tournaments, one has lead the U.S. Open at one point and on the GB and I team one has lead the open this year. Great value in my opinion.

I agree but not for £30.
where do you think these amateurs (UK) play their golf? mixed foursomes or texas scrambles:rolleyes: county meetings and the am tour, and none of them charge to watch.

It is a good event to watch but to charge £30 for what used to be a free event seems a bit of a rum do.
What are the R&A thinking about ?
Perhaps it is their way of keeping the oiks out.

They are thinking that it costs to host top golf events and without Sky giving them millions they need to balance the books and to help out the amateurs in regards accomation etc

You can watch the best amateurs for free at many major open events for Amateurs, i have seen hundreds of these guys in action for free, no way would you get me paying 30 quid to watch a no name playing golf.

30 quid would be plenty to charge for any pro event outside the majors IMO

If this is typical of golf organisers mentality no wonder golf numbers are dwindling if an amateur team match charges 30 quid a day

A "no name" ?!

It's the biggest amatuer team event in golf

It isn't free to host these events

Considering not many people know golfer's names outside of the top 50/100, then yes, these are "no name" players.

It may be the biggest amateur team event, that doesn't mean much.

If it isn't able to be done for cheap, how was it hosted before for free? Would be interested to see how much revenue is generated by this.

Pinnacle of the Amateur game, best amateurs in the world, i really don't think £30 is that expensive!

Sam Horsfield playing makes it worth £30 alone, rarely leaves USA

It costs £30 to go and watch my local football team play in league 1!

Sam Who?

You can watch the British Masters at Woburn for 25 quid a day

Previous winners of the British Masters at Woburn Golf Club include Major Champions Greg Norman (1981), Lee Trevino (1985), Seve Ballesteros (1986 and 1991), Sandy Lyle (1988), Sir Nick Faldo (1989) Ian Woosnam (1994) and Rose (2002)

30 QUID.. for NO NAMES, NO CHANCE

The Walker Cup means a damn sight more in golf than what you suggest and the players aren't No Names - contains a number of players who were highlighted in the Recent open

For golf fans is a great tournament to watch
