Got a free entry through GM for the Volvo Matchplay singles so here is an update to my progress...

First round I got an away fixture against a chap from The Chase GC near Cannock, Staffordshire. Played about 2 weeks ago, receiving 7 shots and after going 2 up by the 3rd I was thinking it was going to be a good day. :)
By the 12th I was 1 down and then back to level by the 13th. Level going in and went to the first playoff hole and managed to secure victory with a par net birdie. All the holes were won with birdies by both of us. It was a really close all the way to be fair. He was a top guy and a pleasure to play against.

Played the second round today at home to a chap from Enville GC. Receiving 3 shots.
1st hole par 5. He tee's off, fires one OOB right. Happy days!
I put 3 wood away, hybrid out, down the middle, safety first! :)
The scary thing was he played his 3rd shot from the tee and smashed (and I mean smashed) it to leave about 140y in. He put it to within 4 feet for a par putt! and I'm 12 feet away for a birdie... Anyhow I sunk mine for the hole.
At this point I was thinking OMG I'm gonna get beat if he hits the ball like this. :D

Anyhow his game seemed to disappear from this point. I ended up 3 up by the turn and dormie 5 concluding to a 5 and 4 win. :)
Thought I played solid golf, nothing special just steady but it was enough. Company was fantastic and a few beers after in the bar was very sociable and a great laugh.

Now have home draw next round potentially against another South Staffs member. :)

Well done Steve, keep flying the flag :)

Mind you, I'd be happy playing someone whose game disappeared AFTER he hit his first drive OOB ;)

Yeah it was really strange, fires his first OOB and his 3 off the tee went nearly as far as your Gary! :D
Honestly mate it went a chuffing mile. But after loosing the first he just seemed to struggle with the course.

My home course is a tough nut to crack and unless you play on a nice tight, punishing track then most do struggle with South Staffs.
Thought it would be a good venue for a forum meet to be fair. :)

Thanks everyone for the praises, I'll try my best flying the flag for GM. :)

Come on then, how's everyone else doing??

Enville is not exactly wide open and as it is used as an Open Qualifier I would not have expected him to struggle so much.

Either the pressure of matchplay or your play got to him.

Well done, keep up the good work.
