Ok guys i acquired a set of vokey sm4 wedges off a friend today 8 months old, 46,50,56 degree. I have never played with vokey are they for low handicap players or can i use them off 17. will they help create more spin than g20 wedge which seem to launch? should i hit down on them more to create spin

anyone can hit them, they wont create more spin, the way you hit a wedge and the ball you use does that

if i use a pro v1 and hit down on the ball will it help me to generate spin?

are you not getting spin just now?

A well struck shot will get spin no matter what wedge or ball you use, its the degree of spin I assume you are referring to? You're looking to have balls land and 'suck back' 10 feet I'm guessing?

Personally I would get rid of the 46. Vokeys as with all specialist wedges, are designed for distance control and feel from scoring range. Spin is really only generated by purity of strike. Hitting down doesn't really make any difference. I strike the ball with a very steep angle of attack, but only get a bit of zip on clean contacts. Backspin can be a pain though as more often than not I'll be playing for a bounce forward to the flag and it ends up spinning away from the pin. Backspin is overrated - drop and stop is far better for low scores.

If you hit a ball properly you will get spin, but don't get hung up on generating so much you get the ball coming back. Backspin is very difficult to control and usually does more damage than it does good.

The difference that you may see in them will be around the greens during the summer when the ground is at its firmest...Then they may be more useful than your G20's but that will probably be subject to how clean you catch the ball..... In the winter they'll more than likely dig on you with the soft ground if your too steep.....

Also check the bounce on them.... Vokeys have a lot of bounce and loft options and if your steep the last thing you want is a wedge with little bounce......And conversely if your shallow more bounce on the sole will hurt......

Your G20 wedges will be a lot more forgiving of a bad swing as well which is something to note....

I bought some Vokeys earlier in the year and started playing Pro Vs in the summer, certainly when hit correctly they stop pretty much dead, now if only I could judge the distances better....

Its not the hitting down that gets the spin its the club head speed through impact. Look at the tour pro's from 50 yards in. No divot and lots of check.

well ill give them a little go this week and if the are not for me ill sell them on what is the going rate for these three wedges guts 8 months old great condition guys?

How about
A, keeping them for longer than a week
B, what you paid for them?

I have never known anyone to go through so much kit as you do. You do realise that kit is rarely the answer don't you?

just like trying new things out not blaming the kit, so far i have discovered the titleist 913 d3 driver is perfect for me, the rbz stage 2 3 wood is super and i love it, newport 1.5 scotty is a putter i will probably have in the bag for the rest of my playing days, i hit a 3 iron better than a hybid, and so on without trying things you will never know whats best for you. ill get there in the end it might cost me money in buying clubs and losing money on them but i dont care

The quality of the strike creates spin, great wedges
