Thanks to all of those who replied to my three questions earlier:

1. Your average amount of duff shots per round
2. Your average drive
3. How much your clubs were worth new at the time of purchase
4. How much you have spent on your clubs

I'm no analyst and I'm sure there are no HUGE shocks in the results attached, so I'll just leave the image below for everyone to look at and make your own conclusions.

The graphs for yards and duffs show the expected handicap trend.
Not a big difference in how much everyone spends on their clubs though.

The correlation between duffs and handicaps looks pretty strong

I reckon X/4 = Y works

where X equals handicap and Y equals expected number of duffs

Thanks Virtuocity that's really interesting.

And there's us reading GM thinking that spending more would make us better...

Damn! What excuse have we got for t'other half now?!?

If only there was a research scientist available with knowledge of statistical analysis and access to the software required... ;)

If you wouldnt mind could you host up the raw data so I can have a bash?

Sorry SB- I didn't keep the raw data.

It took me about 5 minutes going through each thread and 60 seconds to make a graph, if you wanted to spend half an hour pulling something better together?

ETA: The software wouldn't happen to be SPSS???

Also, I'd be interested to find out if there is any correlation between handicap and bargain hunting.

Further handicap-related questions I'd be interested in seeing (but can't be bothered doing!!!) are:

1. Handicaps to lessons taken in the last 12 months
2. Handicaps to course fees
3. Handicaps to putts
4. Handicaps to BMI

The list is endless!

Some very interesting results being shown up there. Be interesting to break them down further but that would take time and some serious statto analysis.

Duffs v handicap seems to correlate as expected. Though the 2 guys off the high teens that bomb it 280 need to work on their iron play and short games. Yet if everyone is being honest on distance I must come in as the 2nd or 3rd shortest hitter of the single figure guys, be interesting to see the accuracy stats go with that.

All I can see is duffers spend as much on their clubs as non-duffers, isn't that where the phrase "All the gear and no idea" came from?

I'm waiting for the correlation coefficients from your regression analysis (or maybe you should just try a least squares fit)
