I've gone and been seduced into getting a Virgin mobile phone on contract. It's a lovely HTC Wildfire only trouble is I can never get a flipping signal. Is Virgin the worst company for signal strength?

It would have to go some to beat 3 to that title!!

The wife had a phone on the 3 network a while back and it was a joke for reception

I did the same but went for the blackberry. Virgin do piggyback off someone, but the problem is that your signal is dependent on let's say O2 customers using it!

If you live around many people who are using the same mast you will suffer with a drop in signal.

Virgin use the T-Mobile network - I have the Virgin Blackberry and generally have had no problems getting a signal except at one location - my club, honest! ;)

HID doesn't believe me but that's the truth.

I'm not sure if the Virgin contract with T-Mobile allows their customers to use the Orange network as T Mobile customers now can.

DB,

I would have replied to this earlier but my crappy internet connection got the better of me. I believe at the moment Virgin piggyback onto the T-Mobile network which at times can be more than a little iffy in terms of providing a decent signal. Like you i've been tempted into joining Virgin as their monthly tariffs (particularly for existing VM customers) are pretty good. The only thing putting me off joining VM is the well documented poor signal quality. I'm currently on Orange using the Everything Everywhere network and it's very good.

However the good new for you is that I had a letter come through from VM the other month advising that later this year they will be utilising the Everything Everywhere network and that network coverage would be greatly improved. Obviusly this doesn't immediately help you now but at least there may be light at the end of that "no signal" tunnel later in the year ;-)

UP1.
