OK now I have your attention, the actual post is about the R11 7 wood I got fitted for today.

Taylormade had a fitting day at my club today. I didnt have a booking but the guy gave some time where a person was late to help me out.

He did't have any hybrids with him as he was there to fit the r11 driver. But he did have the woods!

The very first shot was with a regular shaft and set to standard and neutral. I hit it VERY high and fading and only 150 yards with range balls. Then we tried a stiff shaft and I started to hit it high and with a nice much more consistent fade.

We then moved to my final setting, closed, lower flight and blow me was it fantastic! Absolutely stunning!

I will be purchasing it next week and I will take out the 3 iron, but only if the wife gets the job she has a trial run for that day (and should know when she is finished).

I plan, later in the year, to pull out the 4 iron and put in a 5h instead to give me better options at that length. Finally my bag will be complete!

that's a big set of balls you have there lol

A free dozen worth of penta balls actually!

I have not purchased yet but should do next week if all goes well! I liked it better than any hybrid I have hit with that loft and the flight is fantastic.

7 wood is just a name for a 22* wood so it doesnt bother me, especially when it allows me to attack long par 4s I could not keep a ball on before.

7 wood ? ......REALLY?

just posting the prescribed response ;)

Fair play, in all honesty I've still got a tm v steel 7 wood. I can't bare to let it go.

I bought the 4 wood second hand a long while back. stunning club that I loved when I was younger, now donated to charity!

Take no notice. In summer I carry 4 and 7 woods. Latter is fantastic on our long par 4s. At the end of the round I add up the numbers on my card not the ones on the bottom of my clubs.

My pro has also advised it as its best for our course. I really like the adjustability option as I get better I would probably dial it back to neutral and standard rather than closed and lower. Cannot do that with many clubs so well worth the pennies for a long term investment!

Wasn't aware they did a 7 wood. Fair play if that's what your pro advised and you are happy with it then its just a club and a number like all the others. Knock it straight and true everytime and your partners will soon want to try it out!

I have a 7 wood that I grew up using. It has done me great service over the years. It's in the cupboard at the moment as I now have a utility wood that is slightly heavier so gives me more confidence from the rough.

(I assumed this thread was going to have a video of smiffy hitting a drive 150 yards into the back of range picking buggy that then drives for another 200 yards...)

Nothing wrong with a 7 wood, although I personally don't use one.
Couple of mates of mine have got them, and use them regularly. Ideal club on a longer par 3 or when playing for position on a tricky par 4/5. Also supposed to be quite useful for bad lies in heather/rough, off dirt paths, that sort of thing.
Think Callaway sold an awful lot of "Heaven 7's" a few years ago, so they can't be all bad.
