If submitting a score, I understand you are obliged to prioritise your score. If just range time, and you enjoy it hitting a driving iron, sure, to each his own.
I play off a 2 handicap and I’m not good enough to “enjoy” hitting a driving iron on the range. I have 3 hybrids in my bag.
Modern driving irons are a lot easier to hit but even so hybrids are easier. If I were playing links golf as a home course I’d definitely have a 2 iron.

I bought my two Mizuno Fli Hi‘s (18 deg and 24 deg) secondhand in about 2005 which are so light and easy to hit off the tee or fairway.
