Played 18 holes with a couple of friends today and they kept on mentioning me not using my driver, as I rarely use it, and they think I should.

Does anybody else not use it and get stick for it?

Does anybody else think its that much of a problem not to use it?

Use what works. Us high handicappers are inconsistent by nature and the drivers the hardest club to use in the bag. Unlikely to get much success using the driver if you end up in the cabbage or OOB every shot imo. Wouldn't worry about it, a little light ribbing on the golf course is to be expected. Just remember to return the favour when playing smart gets you a better score than them

Played today, no driver in the bag, was a 3 wood and a hybrid and found I didnt really need them either. 3 iron on the long holes, less on some of the par 4s, made a few birdies and a few others but played ok. Only person who took the proverbial out of me was me :)

I use the driver wherever possible as its one of my most consistent clubs and I don't get this leave the driver at home stuff  Its designed to cut holes down to size therefor making the game easier. If people struggle hitting it then they should fix it. I wouldn't leave my putter at home if I was missing putts so same goes for the driver.

If you have one in the bag when you set out to play then use it. If for whatever reason you know you are not going to use it when you go out to play then get rid as it is a wasted space in your bag.

Agree with this, my driver is one of the most consistent clubs in my bag and I couldn't be without it.

Ive given my 14 yeard old my driver, he hits it quite well and it gets him a few decent extra yards and over a couple of hazards that he can't clear with his irons. My 3 wood goes plenty far enough for me and doesn't get me in anywhere near as much trouble!

Couldn't agree more, shorter and in play is better than long and in trouble!

I agree with this - one of the most profound statements I've read on the forum. :D

I've had terrible trouble with the driver over the last few months and was hitting one fairway per round with it, so taking out the non driveable holes that's 1 in 13!! It was really getting me down, moving to the fairway woods didn't help so I realised it was down to setup on the tee. I've worked really hard to fix the faults, had lessons and the stats are more like 8 in 13 and more importantly I now had an idea of what caused the mis-hit. As time goes by my confidence is returning with the driver and the consistency is improving with every round, OK I won't hit every fairway, who does? At least now I feel like I know what I'm doing with this club instead of being baffled by it.

I've started to cut back using my driver. It's the one club in my bag that usually gets me in trouble. I've tried to fix it, had multiple lessons, practiced a lot, but for some reason I really struggle to commit resulting in all manner of wayward shots.

I've started using my 3h off the tee more. I can usually carry that 220-230 and hit it pretty darn straight most of the time. And is usually level or only a few yards behind most of the guys I play with anyway. This gets me in range on most Par 4's and usually 2 hits will get me on or just short of most par 5's.

I do use driver occasionally when there is a good amount of room and not much danger around.

I'm going to keep working on the driver until I can trust it as there's nothing better than launching one right out the middle and can be a huge advantage when working well. But for now it's limited use only.

right now the driver is rarely in the bag at home or away because of the conditions (and my course is nearly 7000yds!) but in the winter I'll probably use it on 14 holes!

not using it because you can't is another thing entirely.

Several options. Leave it out of the bag and use a 3 wood or something else. Get it sorted with a lesson. However, with winter on the horizon and courses playing longer you may struggle without the distance a driver can give you
