Using the ball logo to line a putt?

There is nothing in the rules to prevent you from using your granny to mark your ball, providing she stays still, its fine. :D

Am fraid there is. A ball marker has to be "a ball-marker, a small coin or other similar object immediately behind the ball". Your granny don't fit that decription - especially when you check the decisions book. On the other hand, there is a specific absence of mention of grannies so perhaps...
Was this not brought about by Brian Barnes using a beer bottle as a marker, or is that urban legend?

I always line my putt up using the aid on the side. Obv I always use a marker in a comp but if it was a bounce game I might not bother with a marker or be bothered if my mate didn't.

I normally know who would insist on it and who would trust me enough to know I put the ball in the right place. I have also used a putter toe if it needs a quick wipe.

Brian Barnes would on occasion (in his drinking days) mark his ball with an unfinished can of lager.
