Whilst out with a pal today we decided to play my fave local Muni. Excellent layout, decent condition although there where 5 truley apaulling(sp) temps on.

On the 4th, a 450 yard hole shortend by 150 yards, the green keeper waso out mowing the fairway. He was at the far end of the first half of fairway (LZ) so as you do, I waited. He proceeded down the fairway towards us and turned around to start back up.

Now I know greenkeepers have priority and thats fair enough but I have never known one to mow a whole fairway whilst a tee is backing up. after almost 10 minutes I played, he was still on the fairway but a good 50 yards to my left and only 50 yards down so even if i tried to hit him, I couldn't of.

Anyway, few holes later there he is again. exactly the same storey but, after splitting the fairway with my drive ( the first time ever on this particular bogey hole of mine) he decided to RE-cut the same bit of fairway he had just done AND cut up my ball at the same time. I know people would say maybe he didnt see it but the F****r watched both drives land, AND I could see the ball sitting pretty from 250 yards away. I steamed up the fairway as he was making his get away and when I got close I couldn't see my ball any where, I was livid. Next thing, I step on it, well half of it anyway. There it is starring up at me, a prov1x core. Turned it over and there is my mark. I turned too locate the tractor and he's off side ways to the next fairway (the same one from paragraph 1) I waved him a few times and he pretended he never saw me. I launced my (half) ball at his tractor i was so angry.

I intende to make a complaint in the club house at the end of the round but didnt get the chance. I will be making a phone call to the local council and speaking to the department responsable for the muni courses.

Has anyone else had anything like this ever happen to them?

Never heard of such behaviour from green staff. At every course I have played on they pull to one side and call you down to drive as soon as you reach the tee. Normally acknowledge a decent drive as well.

Do not blame you for complaining. Mowing a whole fairway whilst you wait on the tee is bad enough but cutting up your ball as well is way out of order.

Defo have a word with the club, he sounds like a right plonker.

The green keepers at my club are ace and work bloody hard to keep the course decent after the society hackers and always pull over when im on the tee.

Truly unbelievable, no excuses, this sort of idiot gives all the other great greenkeepers a bad name.

Us greenkeepers are having a difficult time at the moment as it is, the atrocious weather means the grass is growing faster than we can cut it (i swear i can hear it growing). Due to the wet humid weather, the courses throughout the UK are ravished with disease. Along with the credit crunch and membership’s / visitors being down, the last thing we need is bad press.

On behalf of all decent greenkeepers i apologise... however i suspect he isn’t actually a ‘greenkeeper’ at all more like a hired grass cutter. It takes many, many years of education and experience before you can qualify as a greenkeeper.

Keep happy!

One thing I have never understood is why on a busy day (particularly saturday), the mowers don't start on 18 and work backwards to the 1st. That way, each group only gets disturbed once.
This may not be the most efficient use of the mowers, but it wouldn't back up the field as much as having the same group waiting 4 times.

we often have two mower crews out, speeds up the process though you might meet them twice but with a little give and take it works. all in all they're a nice bunch of guys.

the only issue I have though is the times that they are out - always seem to meet them on the Wednesday medal, but then we start before they do.

Maybe it was the same dude who drives the ball picky-uppy tractor at the range taking revenge for all those times the nasty golfers have tried to hit him in his cage.

C'mon, we all do it! It's the primeval instinct of the carnivore that loves a moving target!

Played a muni in Glasgow (Linn Park Golf and Country Club)some year back on a Friday afternoon. Greenstaff were out cutting new holes before the weekend. Two of us played into the first green and before the other two played the greenkeeper (I use the term loosely) moved the pin to the opposite end of the green!

If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it.

My society and I (that does sound good) were engaged at a not inexpensive venue last week (it believes itself to be better than it actually is). A second society was also scheduled for the same day.

In the midst of the afternoon round a gnome in a buggy kept appearing and insisting on raking bunkers as we approached holes, I believe in preparation for a club competition the following day. Don't know what he was going to achieve as we were only the first of our groups.

On the 7th the full panoply of greenkeepers appeared, replete with tractors and buggys. They proceeded to cut out sections of the green between shots. To give them their due they did stand to one side to allow us to play but that unfortunately just caused everyone to play to the opposite side where the green ran down into bunkers and rough (very).

DCB i have heard that storey before, i think it must be a greenkeepers party piece!
