Worth mentioning this today because it just goes to show what a funny game this is.

Played Sunday in my medal and hit 89 - not good.

Played in my club somewhat belated Summer Pairs final today and we won 4&3. I had a gross 75 not withstanding the odd conceded putt here and there.

I went from the worst round to the best round this year (in all comps) in just 48 hrs.

I didnt pick up a club again from Sunday till the 1st tee today so its not practice.

I put it down to just one thing, anybody hazard a guess to what my 1 swing thought was today?

I guess thats the wonder of this game. How can McDowell go from two rounds in the 80's last week and then come back and play so well in China. At our level consistancy will always be an issue and I have just got use to having bad rounds punctuated every so often with something approaching mediocre. Well done on the win though

thats what's so furious about the game, many a time this year i've been playing really well and then all of a sudden i play pretty horrific golf.what annoys me is when it happens during a round, where you're shooting pretty well and playing great when all of a sudden it falls apart.

See the club hit the ball? It is the only swing thought that I think works.

This swing thought had better be bloody miraculous after this build up. It needs to be announced with dancing girls and singing bloody elephants or it is in danger of being a bit of an anti climax.
Was it "slowly slowly smashy monkey".

lol OK here goes.

I injected a bit of Rhythmn into the mix and voila!!

Has anybody seen a golf drill before where you are pitching <100 yds so you shorten your backswing to say 3/4 but then you must also try to swing through 3/4, or half swing back and half swing through? I simply took this and applied it to everything , I know it sounds simple but it worked an absolute treat for me.

On the tee as well with the big stick full swing back, full swing through was my swing thought.

Someone already suggested "keep it smooth" , well the result was certainly smooth but I've tried the swing thought "smooth" before but never really achieved good results. This swing thought however produced a smooth unhurried swing and helped everything to just fall into place. It worked for me because I know full well that I get anxious and try to hit at the ball early. I didnt hit the ball once Tuesday, I swung the club.

I urge you to try this or go back to it ( if you tried it before ) if you find that you are having a stinker and please let us know if it makes any difference at all to your game.

It works for sure. I have been swinging smoother and more rhythmically for most of this year and it definitely improves everything. The ball goes further and it goes straighter and how I achieved this was at a golf lesson where we started with the finish of the swing! We started by feeling a really balanced, smooth finish, so loads of practice swings without a backswing just smoothly going to the finish and trying to feel like a very aged Luke Donald - it works for me though
