Fed up of spending a fortune on fags.
Fed up of smelling like an old ashtray when I've smoked a fag.
Fed up of the fact that fags are slowly killing me.
Fed up of the negative impact on my health for all the years I've smoked.

With the above in mind I went out and bought myself an e-cig. The ones that you fill with liquid.
Charged it up last night and got it ready.

Drove to the course this morning, felt the need for a smoke, had a few pulls on the e-cig. Craving cured.
Played a poor front 9, struggling with my normally good iron shots and a few wayward drives. Started to sort it out coming up the 7th though.
Normally I would have smoked 2 or 3 cigs by now. Just pulled out the e-cig and had a few toots on it.

Played a good back 9 scoring 20 points due to me sorting my swing out and relaxing over the ball. All was well with the world.
Sitting here now, I haven't touched a single cigarette all day. Just had a toot on my e-cig when required.

I know I'm still drawing in the dreaded nicotine but....................... I am avoiding the other nastiness which screws up your health and eventually kills you. Plus HID thinks I smell a whole lot pleasanter.

Early days yet, but I'm gonna give this a real go. Big test tomorrow at work but saying that, I'm pleased with resisting any cigs today, especially on the course. I usually eat them out there!

Anybody else tried them or use one? Could form a support group. :D Stoptober coming along soon, would be great if I could say that I stopped several days before the event!

I use them and have done for around 18 months now. Swanny32 posted on here early last year about them. You wont put on weight, I didn't.

I use 'Really' e cigs. I prefer the longer lasting batteries (around 8 hours) and refillable cartridges.

You will save loads of money, your health and you notice that you don't stink.

Suffered the Palace game this afternoon - but could vape all the way through in my seat!

World class Basher, have a good go at it.

For what it's worth, I stopped last July, and lasted on the e-cig for about 10 hours. It was ace, throat hit, 'smoke', etc; the works. Packed that in the very first evening though, it just seemed a bit pointless.

So I went for it, cold turkey. Haven't had a really strong craving since.

I'd recommend the book, Allan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking - I never finished it, but read enough to get my mind exactly where it needed to be - job's a good'un.

I used to get minor cravings at work. Ended up doing the jobs i'd been putting off, as a way of dealing with it. Ended up much more productive in my job, and that's another positive that is often over looked.

I stuck a few kilo's on, not so much by eating, but more because I ended up injured unfortunately. Weight does tend to stick a bit easier and a bit longer, but it's amazing how much better you feel as the days, weeks and months eventually roll by.

Good luck and stick with it. Take it day by day, nice and easy.

Thing is, if you vape, and it's not too expensive, or hazardous, or anti social, why quit? It sounds great to me, and I don't smoke!

For me, mate, it was all about flying. I'm travelling regularly so was forced to go 10+ hours without a burner. I'd have 5 before getting on a plane, and 3 or 4 as soon as I got off. I figured I could last the 10+ hours pretty easily, so all I had to do was apply that mindset to my every day life.

Can't vape on a plane, so it was no use to me. The other thing to try is chewing gum, not nicorette etc, but normal chewers. Just chuck an Extra in when you'd normally have a burn. It tastes a lot nicer, is a shedload cheaper, and it's not unhealthy.

Also, as your taste buds recover and you regain the sense of taste, the chewers get even better!

Good on you for giving up - it's a great feeling when you've mastered it.

But a word of warning if I may say so, be careful not to get addicted to gum, as I've heard of people being addicted for 8 and 10 years in some cases.

I don't know if vaping becomes addictive but for me wouldn't want to be on it for too long - not knowing what the long term side affects are. And there will surely be some!

Off on the ferry tomorrow at 5am to get enough tobacco to make 10,000 cigarettes

Equivalent to £1 for 20 fags..... cheap as chips.

Saves us £5,000 year by not buying from the shops!!!

I could change to e-cigs but it would cost me more money... and do I NEED to be fitter? I 'spose I'd be able to run to the shops instead of walk :p

Thanks for the encouragement guys, it's appreciated.
Also thanks a lot JustOne!!! :)

Hopefully smoked my last ciggie last night. Had a bit of a craving watching the telly about 30 minutes ago. Switched on and had a good few draws on my e-cig, sorted.
I've been aiming to up the fitness this year by several methods eg, using the stairs instead of the lift at work. Leaving the car at home and cycling into work. (that effort may now be coming to an end what with the darker nights approaching and colder weather imminent)

Won't be using the gum Golfmmad. Don't like the taste. Just using the e-cig, So far it's great. Feeling pretty good about myself at the moment thinking there's no reason why I can't carry on without cigs.

Anything with nicotine is addictive so yes vaping with nicotine is addictive. Also explains the gum addiction. My dad used gum and then started subbing in normal gum. He is rarely without a packet of normal gum now but health is better.

If you are a smoker then any alternative is going to be better for health long term than actual cigarettes. The argument about not knowing the long term effects of vaping is a weak one when you consider the thing it is replacing. OK it isn't an ideal solution but certainly a better alternative.

I have tried the cigarette looking vapour cigs but little success because they are still expensive compared to the roll up's I smoke most of the time. The liquid refillable ones do seem to be a much better alternative for me though.

Hehe... I think if you're GOING TO DO IT then my comments shouldn't put you off, rather like whispering "Don't shank it" in someone's ear... if they're strong minded enough they'd never shank it

Stay strong.... you either want to do it, or you don't.

Entirely agree with you, but my point was that weaning off cigarettes and then taking something else that becomes addictive too, would be a shame. :)

The 'cigarette looking' ones can also be re-filled with the liquid to keep costs down.
Once done, pop the plastic end off, put about 0.5ml vaping juice in, pop the plastic end back on.

You can also down grade on the nicotine strength if you want to try and wean yourself off.

In it's pure form nicotine is a stimulant for the mind (similar to caffeine). I am not aware of any 'issues' with nicotine, it is all the other stuff that is no good in the delivery method.

Hi Basher - I have been a 20+ a day man for over 20 years and I have forgotten the number of times I have tried to give up - patches, gum - even sticking myself on a small boat miles from land for a few days - and have always failed. I also attended the Alan Carr course with him in person and needed a fag half an hour after leaving. To be honest, the last few times I have tried I have been so grumpy that the wife / staff have been relieved when I have started again!

I started e-cigs last Monday (VIP brand) - and I admit that I am puffing on them quite a lot BUT I haven't had any of the normal cravings. If I can cut down the e-cigs eventually then great but if not I am still better off in every way. Stick with them - they are the future!

PS I know they are banned on planes (they are also banned on cruise ships) but since the smoke detectors in the loo can't spot them it is a pretty pointless rule! No point having a law that can't be enforced!

I would advise anyone with these refillable ones to keep an eye on move with legislation and regulation of the e-cigs. I can picture the liquid becoming highly controlled due to the risks it may pose. Especially in volumes and strengths it can currently be purchased.

40 a day for 20+ years, tried tablets, inhalater thingy, gum and no joy. went to a vape device (refillable tank type) and quit for 8 weeks then went to spain and smoked, came back and straight back on the vaping, that was 10th July and apart from a cig on a night out which tasted like crap I haven't had any others since!

I buy my liquid online for £6.50 and a bottle lasts just over a week with fairly heavy usage. I have cut back from strong juice to medium and in the next order will be going for low nicotine.

Keep it up and good luck. I was out Friday with work colleagues and vaping in a club, nothing said, loads were using them so it just shows how popular it is now and nearly everyone said they haven't had a cig since!

don't buy coffee flavour its rank, cherry is my current favourite :D

G1BBO, is that a 10ml bottle or bigger? If 10ml you can get it cheaper, especially if going to zero nicotine. E bay has loads of sellers now but never used. Couple of shops in my town, 3 for a tenner or £5 each. Found them in Home Bargains at the weekend for £2 - will go and stock up as HB can be a bit hit & miss.
