Trusting new irons.

Why don't you use the clubs that give you the best results ?

If you have no confidence with the G25's they why continue to persevere with them ?

Seems madness

As I have said many times, and you keep ignoring, the G25's WERE the best club when I tried everything at my fitting(s). I hit them ok but it is just the visual hurdle that puts me off. I have confidence and the work I've done at the range has reinforced this. Given the changes I made to my swing in 2013 and finally starting to feel a level of consistency is just coming, getting rid of the TM's takes any options away as well as giving me a few quid for Chrimbo.

I think you'll find there were many on my original thread a few weeks back who were advising to get rid of the TM's and stick with the club and having thought about it I agree. I am still tempted by the I20's as I feel I can now golf these now but want to wait for the I25's and then compare the two.

Yes they gave you the best results at the fitting but what about now ? They "were" the best on that given day. But are they still the best now ?

Why don't you go out on the course with the TM and see the results then - that way you will know one way or the other. Everythimg could click on the course with the TM's and then you could sell the G25's and have no need for the I25's.

i sold my g20 iron to my mate, plays off 8. His first round with them he scored 40 points and took the kitty.

Having recently acquired another set of of irons I'm curious how long people take to gain total trust in their new tools?

So far it's been a range session with around 50 balls, 9 holes, another range session with 100 balls and them 18 holes.

Tonight I hit the range for some back to back testing with 3 clubs from each set and I've got to admit I'm starting to think the grass is not greener.....

I'm not in a position where Sunday is effectively our last comp of the year for me to receive n
Any sort of cut and given its stableford off forward tees i need to be looking to shot at least 38 points due to the adjusted CSS from the yellows...... I'm not sure that sort of score is in the new sticks with my current swing, but in the same position as homer don't want to run back to the oldies if it's not the right thing to do.

If you can't trust the new set, go back to the old one - for this comp!

Then commit to the new set by selling the old one! And groove them, along with the swing changes, over Winter!

I wonder whether procrastination is the right thing to do, but I'm not sure! :D

Sigh

They are still the best for me and by selling the TM's it takes away the temptation to keep meddling and changing. I thought you were all for keeping it simple but clearly only when it fits. IF I start to play to the potential I think I have and head towards single figures I might look again at something with a sleeker top line. I may get over the thick line dislike and keep them anyway. Having hit the TM's at the range last week they performed well but distance definitely down (not a surprise) on the Ping. Dispersion was acceptable but again I think Ping was better

So the Pings performed better for you - then that was your answer before you started the other thread. You didn't make that clear IMO or I missed it. It seemed to me that since getting the new irons your performance levels have dropped ? Hence why you were thinking of going back what worked previously ( perfectly understandable ) . Apologies for the confusion.

I've got it Sussed and ready for battle.

Sunday is the last comp in which I can get a cut but.... At 11.7 what's the worst that can happen, 11.8... Big whoop!

I'm lucky enough to have a clubhouse complete with indoor simulator so Monday/Tuesday evening I'm going to get the simulator for an hour in the evening, whiles it's not 100% spot on it should give me the ideal option to test for consistency , dispersion, length and flight. Test 5i, 7i, 9i back to back between both sets with a pack of new warm dx3's

No cold range balls, no freezing temps, no taking summer distances into account and just looking at the facts, winner stays, loser goes on eBay!

This year I've used 4 sets of irons. I still have them all sitting around. I haven't shot considerably better or worse with any of them. I changed for fun. Its not the irons that dictate if I score well. Its the positions I put myself in off the tee and general play around the greens.

my dad always said, and I tend to agree...

"If you are any good, you could play with a brush shaft"

Oddsox, Apologies for the thread-jack - though it might be relevant.

Homer,

I'd seriously suggest that rather than thinking negatively about the topline, you turn that into a positive by thinking 'There's no way I'm not going to hit this shot well as these clubs are so forgiving - just look at that forgiving topline!'!

Negative thoughts give negative results; Positive thoughts give positive ones!
