Having recently acquired another set of of irons I'm curious how long people take to gain total trust in their new tools?

So far it's been a range session with around 50 balls, 9 holes, another range session with 100 balls and them 18 holes.

Tonight I hit the range for some back to back testing with 3 clubs from each set and I've got to admit I'm starting to think the grass is not greener.....

I'm not in a position where Sunday is effectively our last comp of the year for me to receive n
Any sort of cut and given its stableford off forward tees i need to be looking to shot at least 38 points due to the adjusted CSS from the yellows...... I'm not sure that sort of score is in the new sticks with my current swing, but in the same position as homer don't want to run back to the oldies if it's not the right thing to do.

My first round with my i20's when I bought them was the club champs.

Didn't see the point in holding them back, after being fitted for them there was no reason to believe they would be worse than my old ones.

Didn't win anything that weekend but it wasn't the clubs fault. :)

I got on with my new irons straight away when I bought them but I'm guessing there is no set time limit. Did you get them fitted

I've got the same doubts with my new irons I've been fitted for, gone from
MX 200's which are pretty forgiving to MP 54's which are less forgiving and quite a bit smaller head.

Hit them really well on the range and in the fitting but just a bit worried when I'm out on the course when I don't have a perfect lie every time.

On the plus side I've got a good 3 months before the season starts to get used to them.

I think the issue is swing changed coupled with new irons means it's all change, don't fancy hacking round littlestone next week on the forum meet either...

I'm not allowed to use my i20s to after Xmas but took 3 out the box to use at the club today pulled every one of them but was pulling my normal irons as well. So cleaned them stuck them back in the box. Wife will never no and am looking forward to trying them again in the new year. Must sort this pull out next time I play.

I had the same thoughts when I got my new clubs, but twelve years later they are still in my bag. Stick with them and you will be fine.

immediately! or are you having to change your swing to suit the irons? if that's the case why did you change?

I've got a final round with the Slingshots on Friday, and the beautiful replacement set is delivered Friday night, ready for a round on Saturday morning.

I'll have half hour on the range beforehand, and hope not to dent the confidence too badly haha!

First round with new clubs, i'm well excited haha!

I think that there's times that you have to accept the fact that changes in things affect you in good/bad ways to start with. I had a lesson yesterday and then went straight out to play with Jimboo, I chipped pretty abysmally and chucked away many shots and holes as a result. In the long run I know that the changes will bed in and save me shots but changes of clubs, technique etc don't always work day one.

I too are worried about Littlestone as I'm not prepared to chip and pitch with the old method, there's little point this time of the year in having lessons and not practicing at every opportunity !

Sounds to me as if you’re putting unnecessary pressure on yourself to perform this weekend. The new irons won’t bring you a score, nor will the old one’s..........you might though but not in this frame of mind.

Having got the TM 7 iron mended after the walk of shame at the range last week I've decided to sell them at the weekend. G25's staying in the bag and I'm just going to have to get use to the big fat chunky looking short irons until I decide if the I25's are the way to go next season

You've disobeyed Rules 1 & 2 of getting new clubs...

1) Never hit the old ones again
2) Sell the old ones as soon as possible

I think the bold part is important, it is more about your swing than the clubs, if you can't knock it round in 38 points because of your swing, the bats aren't going to make a blind bit of difference.

I trust them straight away.
If I get a new club it will have been CF'd, and I wouldn't buy it if I didn't think it was the right club.

I don't understand why you would buy a club without being confident in it. Or may be I'm just tight and don't like parting with my hard earned cash unless I'm absolutely positive I want/need the item in question.

When I moved to my MP63's from MP32's, it took me about a month to 6 weeks to get used to them.

No idea why

MP32's were brought second hand (not fitted) and the MP63 were custom fit so should have worked straight out of the box, but, for some reason they didn't.

After those 6 weeks they were great and I haven't looked back since.

Take the pressure off yourself, go out and play a few rounds, and see how they fair. Tommo is right in what he says.

Why don't you use the clubs that give you the best results ?

If you have no confidence with the G25's they why continue to persevere with them ?

Seems madness

Its dangerous this time of year changing clubs. Ive just changed my G25s from stiff to regular, every other spec exactly the same. Used them last weekend for the first time and couldnt hit a thing with them. Used them at the range tuesday on flight scope and i was at least a club down sometimes 2 in distance. On checking with previous flight scope swing speed, smash factor and dipersion were all better but it was about 10 degrees down in temperature using cheap range balls. The old clubs were posted and the new sticks are in the bag. Sometimes you want to see massive differences to warrant the change and unfortunately its not the case, especially with the mind games golf can produce.

Great choice on the irons! 👍
