True Links Courses

Question.

Should it be easier for a links golfer to change his game to playing a parkland style course, or vice versa ?

When one considers how many americans have won the open on links courses i suggest a parkland golfer finds it easier to change......

Come north of the border to the Dundee area and within 35 minutes drive you've got Monifieth,Panmure,Carnoustie, Arbroath, and Montrose or into Fife, Scotscraig, St Andrews , Kingsbarns, Crail, Lundin Links , Leven Links and Elie not bad going at all, also some of them are amongst the oldest golf clubs in the world sploit for choice really

I think its more to do with how versatile a player is and how quickly they understand the differences in play.
Links courses can make some golfers fall in love and others to dispair. The expectations of some when they visit a true Links can be dramatically changed on the first tee and if you dont have the right frame of mind it can leave some with negative opinion.

Myself, I love a good Links and even like those courses that pretend to be a true Links, its great golf that is forever a changing challenge and the changes can be as dramatic as the golf.

Parkland can be a challenge and that challenge can vary slightly from time to time, but nothing like a Links. ;)

Talking about courses pretending to be links courses, there has been a spate of inland courses trying to either take classic Links traits & introduce them into inland course, or on occasion there are blatant attempts to create an inland links where the ground conditions of the subsurface allow.

That said, there is nothing can replace a sea breeze blowing through you hair & the smell of the salt & maybe the kelp in the distance.

Thanks all, some triffic info.

Money and time are tight at the minute so the links experience may have to hang fire a year until week can make a few days off it.
