Trolley dilemma....

So I like to use a leccy trolley and I have a Powakaddy Freeway (one of the original models) which is probably about 8-9 years old. It works fine and has never let me down although its a bit creaky now as I use it 2-3 times per week.

The battery is looking like it needs replacing and this last one has only lasted just over a year, so here is the dilemma.

Do i keep replacing the battery at £70-90 quid a time until the old thing fails on me ( could be any day or could keep on going......) or upgrade for around £250ish (go kart).

I played with Bratty saturday and he has the Go Kart with automatic upgrade on the handle and it does seem really good.

Im tempeted to just keep mine until its knackered....or should I just go for a new one.....thoughts??

I personally would go new now, if you think the batterys arent holding out its clearly seen better days.

I would love one of these and will probably invest in one when I look good enough to have one.

A friend said there is a guy he plays with who really shows off with all his gadgets... apparently his had a fault and started on its own down a bank (just like in an episode of Mr Bean) the golf bag slipped and dispenced a club roughly every 20 yrds down the bank onto the next fairway... He said the sight of this guy chasing after it shouting at a trolley was priceless. He ended up pushing it the final 10 holes.
 
It's the same dilemma as "do I run my car till it disintegrates, throwing good money after bad, or do I change it now?". You pay the money or you take your chances.

To be honest i have been tempted to go back to carrying but do find the course I play (as you know) are quite hilly and sloping so can make you a little tired towards the end and I start leaking shots. I appreciate that its my decision - I only posted as it would be good to hear when others change their Electric Trolleys, ie when they get old and perhaps a bit sluggish or they just competely give up?

I could do without the money being spent on something I already have but i am tempted, may even be able to get 50/60 quid for mine on ebay which makes the upgrade not bad....
 
Did you read the trolley test piece in the mag? One of the guys had the Go-Kart and it gave up the ghost coming up the 18th, plus he couldn't get on with the handle.

I would suggest a new model is in order, there's some good deals to be had.

i hd a powercaddy before which was ok... but more up to date most of my playing mates have the motocaddy s1, not heard anyone have issues with these at all, they seem to be the most popular, but can you budget for £300 ......

Just to balance the books, had a nightmare with my S1, after a while the plastic joints seemed to go, one after another. Have now had them all replaced but got fed up with it in the end and bought a far more resilient (if dearer) Golfstream Revolution, the S1 sits in the garage gathering dust
 
really strange, ive got 3 mates all with s1's,. ranging from almost 2 years old up to 1 month old, none have had any issues at all.

I purchased an older motocaddy explorer from the craw, but the courier decided it would be a great idea to drop the box and brake the axel, mine is around 5 years old according to thecraw, and it all still seems really stable and steady, been meaning to get that axel fixed, but its a case of getting off my aris and dropping it to the shop for an axel change...
 
Its strange isnt it, as i said my Powakaddy has never been a problem or broken down etc. I have 2 mates who use them too, once has a freeway II about 3 years old and the other has the Sport Lithium for about 18 months and they have all been trouble free. I do know of others that have had issues with PK and swear by motocaddy....

I just think with mine its not being that efficient due to age, my heavy bag prob not helping and as a result its burning through batteries pretty quickly.

I am quite keen on the Go kart due to cost, the size you can fold it down too and the service seems to be second to none.

I'll look into some cheaper batteries (Bob?) and see if I can keep it going - maybe as one of the other guys said, hold on for an auction at HFH.

Thanks to everyone for their input though, it helped more by me reading the answers stopped that impulse buy that I would otherwise have done !!
 
just picture yourself at the weekend, walking up the first at woldingham with a nice shiney new, quiet trolley.... all pimp and sporty in white..... you need it scott, have you ordered it yet?

Almost bought a dieing S1 recently, going cheap but seller dropped out ... Thought it might keep me busy of the cold months. I wonder how many trolleys are gathering dust these days.
