Hi all,

Poss 4 or more of us are thinking of going away golfing for 3 days in June. Group are varying h/c , going from crap (me) to about 12 .

Any suggestions ? Anyone got any reviews or recommendations in France?

Open to all suggestions but don't want to spend a fortune.

Cheers

Possibly not the best location for you mate, but we used to have a tour of mixed ability golfers and we settled on Thorpeness. Hotel on the course, good all in packages and a course that presented the better golfers with a challenge without crucifying the less able. Keep thinking I must go back & play it again, nice part of the country.

Fife in Scotland. Great range of courses from inland to traditional links and you can pay as much (kingsbarns) or as little (Anstruther) as you like. So you can have a couple of cheaper games and then maybe finish with a bang at one of the many premium courses in that area.

Loads of accomodation options as well, from B+Bs to large hotels like St Andrews Bay.

Being from north of the border I am of course a little biased but the home of golf takes some beating in my opinion.

I would second this, marvellous golfing area.
Usually drier on that side of Scotland.

Find a Travelodge for cheap digs, near a town with decent pubs (weatherspoons for cheap beer) and a a supermarket with a cafe for breakfast (cheap) and food places and near to golf courses. Sorted !

I can highly reccomend Keithly. Ticks all the above boxes. Golf? Bingley St Ives (Brilliant) Keithly (superb with a very tough par three on the back nine), Branshaw, (like playing links golf). Skipton (lovely place). done.

St Andrews Uni opens one of their halls to the public in summer as a hotel style thing. It's very good value. June may be a little early in the year though - you'd have to check.

East Sussex national do a great package, one night stay two different courses with food thrown in. Could we be worth a look.

As a guide we just paid 139 a head for a Saturday night stay, Saturday and Sunday golf (1 round on each course) evening meal Saturday, breakfast Sunday with full use of the spa / gym etc.

Bloody Hell Crazyface, Never heard Branshaw described as a links course, i am very close to the area, Keighley at the moment is mainly under water, Skipton is undergoing a major course revamp after some of the land was compulsary purchased, Bingley St. Ives is good but if you are in the area again try Northcliff or Shipley.

Looking at where you are based Midnight, I think France would be a decent shout. Overnight crossing to either Cherbourg or St Malo (don't lose a day travelling that way) then straight onto the course when you arrive. Plenty of good courses in the Normandy area.

I would go to either St Andrews or East Lothian, some of the best courses in the world and not over the top expensive if you pick the right ones, plus St A is a good night out and the other Edinburgh on the doorstep
