The 'eyeopener' I'm referring to is twofold..

1) I don't swing as fast as I thought I did:(

2) The best launch figs gave great stats but it didnt look to go as far to the naked eye

Tried the...

G30 (both heads) 10.0* and 12* and in stiff, tour stiff and regular shafts
SLDR (normal) 10.5* stiff
Callaway X2Hot 10.5* Stiff
Callaway Big Bertha 10.5* stiff

Summary info (feel free to ask anything else and I'll answer if I can remember)

SS avg 99mph:(
Launch angle avg under 10*
Spin avg - not bad mostly 2000-3500
Carry avg 220'ish
Smash factor avg 1.43 (had a few 1.50's and 1.49's but didnt carry as far:confused:)

Overall I didnt like the 'bulbus' head shape (cant think of a better word) of the SLDR, X2Hot and Big Bertha.
I surprised myself by liking the G30 shape and the way it say at address, the turbulators did 'F' all for me and I feel will do nothing for anyone with a SS under 110mph. They did however 'frame' the ball well and were an excellent lining up aid.

Best dispersion and flightscope stats were achieved with G30 Stiff at 12*, launching at 11.9* (still low) and carrying 245'ish

Best sound came from my Ping Rapture V2 9* stiff but it was launching at 8*-9*, looked good in the air but flightscope said 'no'

Sorry for long-ish post, went there hoping the G30 was going to be the one but very unsure, The only sure thing is I don't swing fast these days and I need to launch way higher than I do to max out my girly swing...and advancing years:rolleyes:

Drive for show, put for dough. ;)

Was watching a Crossfield video the other day and he said that essentially, for most amateurs, all modern drivers will go mostly the same distance if you hit them in the middle. So a lot of the choice is down to personal preference and there is not really a bad choice as long as you feel confident with it. Same for the shafts as there is very little difference in a lot of cases between what you will do with a R or S shaft, but one will feel better, so that's the one to go for.

Never underestimate the power of the mind though!

I'm sure people that think they hit a driver better than they hit another probably actually do. Confidence is of huge importance at all levels of the game to anyone that wants to achieve their potential.

I had been considering a new driver for a while there. But really anything I've tried isn't beating what I've got already yet to try the BB Alpha but I can't me getting rid of the 910 anytime soon

Totally agree. And that was kind of his point I think, go with what makes you confident as there's no point going for a driver that might have given you 4 or 5 extra yards on the day of a fitting if you don't like the look of it or it does not exude confidence. Go for the one that gives you confidence as over time you will play better golf with it.

Big fan of using launch monitors where possible when testing/buying clubs and it does make some interesting reading as you go from model to model. If you aren't sure then it's a lot of money to shell out and have niggling doubts after

I agree, got fitted 2 years ago for my driver. Best decision ever. Went in there, hit everything, came out with a cobra.
From that point on I dropped 4 shots to get down to 20 in about 6 weeks. Almost entirely down to the confidence I get from knowing/believing that was the right club for me.
Went back last year for irons. Unsurprisingly hit taylormade furthest, wanted the ping i20, but came out with cobra again. You gotta go with what feels right!
