Ping G30 Driver

I've found one to try, probably at the weekend now. Sadly no monitor to match the data between the G25, SLDR (well I've got to give it a go after everything here) and the G30. Not sure what I'll get without the data but if I like any of them I could get the pro who teaches me to wire the monitor up for me

I bet like for like the G30 will be the same as your G25.

My feeling too but I'm am interested in these nifty turbulators

you do realise you have to say turbulators in an American movie voice over style....

"...In a world long forgotten, one man could take no more, one man stood up to be counted, one man would become the saviour of the world they thought was gone, they called him......The Turbulator"...... cue action music and martial arts scenes with the G30

And he's quite happy with a Pink Bi-Matrix shaft too!

Had a crack with it today - was the tour version

It sits nicely , looks good at address , feels nice in the hand and weighted nicely ( heavier head ) .

Nice sound of the club face but the distance wasn't as great as what I was getting with my SLDR - a good 20 yards behind but very straight , felt easy to hit. Speaking to the pro - they are bringing out a K version as well.

It's a nice driver but the performance in my hands isn't anywhere near the SLDR

Damn! 20 yards?! Do you mean carry or all out?

The SF Tec appeals to me as I never want anything to do with the right hand side of the fairway but I fear the SF Tec may have me hooking it so best I deal with that myself. Still interesting to me though.

The SF Tec is what he is was meaning in regards the K version far more forgiving - no idea how

And 20 yards average overall distance.

Na dont think so. I believe they will do a K with the SF Tec but its already out in the G too, there are 2 G30s one with and one without.

Do you mean it was fitted with the ping Tour shaft.....??

I don't know if that's the only difference between the tour and the normal version ?

But yes it had their tour shaft on it

Took the G30 out for 18 holes tonight, hit both my Taylor made R11s 9.0 and the G30 10.5 and the result were surprising, hit both really well and down the 6th I hit both sweet and my club was 30 yards past it, on average over the round the G30 was about 7 yards longer so back to the drawing board I think. Had a quick go with my mates X2 hot and that was shorter than the G30.

Next to try is the SLDR. If that doesn't get good results then I will be keeping my club till next season.

I was lucky enough to try out the G30 at Ping GM yesterday.

The turbulators on the crown of the head, whilst noticeable, are not distracting at address. The head sits well and has a nice sleek, matt finish.

I currently use a G15 10.5 degree with stock stiff shaft, I've always been happy with this Driver, not overly long but can get it 'out there', when swinging well, always had quite a low ball flight.
After a couple of swings, fitter suggested a 12 degree SF TEC (slightly more weight in heel) with stock stiff shaft.

Figures are from Trackman with range balls:

Swing Speed- same with both 95-96mph
Ball Speed- same with both 127.5mph
Spin Rate- Same with both 2500
Launch Angle- G15 8.5 degrees, G30 12.1 degrees
Carry- G15 219yds, G30 241 yds
Total- G15 251yds, G30 262yds

So, higher launch angle with same amount of spin has meant higher ball flight, more carry, more overall yards, I'm not too sure what, if anything, the turbulators contribute to this (seems to be a slight gimmick), but it certainly looks good and definitely works (for me it did).
Would I buy one? Definitely yes, but I want to test it against a SLDR before taking the plunge

Would be good to know if you tried the G15 12 degree loft, that would really be the control, perhaps the extra carry and distances is purely because you were playing too low a loft?! Launch angle of 8.5 for a 10.5 face then 12.1 for a 12 sounds like the shaft might suit you better... Aside from the numbers I suppose the main thing is if you're happy with it, confidence goes a long way while it lasts, I'm on a G15 12 degree at the moment and like you love the forgiveness but wouldn't mind a few extra yards (said every golfer ever)

I have just hit a 10.5 deg regular stock shaft driver at the AG range in Biggleswade. The club felt a little head heavier than my G20 and I found the herminators (or whatever) quite distracting at address. Good strikes went ok but dispersion was terrible (most likely me as I have not hit driver/clubs generally in the last 3 months). Take the fins away and it was pleasant enough to look at, but performance wise I experienced little difference from my G20. I suspect I would change to a G25 first when they hit the bargain bucket.

Tried TFG Warrington tonight in their Taylor Made approved fitting centre. Settled on a SLDR S 14 degree stock stiff shaft, after trying various head and shaft combos.

Range was playing into the wind tonight:

Swing Speed- increased to 98-100.5
Ball Speed- increased to 135
Spin Rate- decreased to 1900-2000
Launch Angle- increased to 16-16.5
Carry- 228-232 yds
Total- 258 yds

Felt really nice, lovely flight, little draw. Carry and total yardage a little down on G30 (which was tested on a sunny, calm day) but tonight was a bit humid and playing straight into wind.

Also, dispersion was a lot tighter with SLDR

Only my opinion but the SLDR beats the G30 (only just though)
