i'm looking into getting a session on one of these things, has anyone on here had a session on them before?i've found a place in edinburgh that seems ideal and i've been in contact for a session, all i'm wanting is all the info i can get on my swing speed, ball speed etc etc and then for the future i can then get the shafts that will be more suited to me.

whats annoying me is i'm almost obsessed with hitting the ball far and having decent numbers, why i don't know.i do hit the ball quite far and at times have hit some long hits,i usually average between 270-290 yrd carry because at most courses i get no roll.now earlier in the season this was due to hitting a 9.5 driver with the wrong shaft and the ball was going so high in the air.lately i've went with a stiff shaft and 7.5 head and the ball can still go higher but i'll need to wait until the better weather next year to see if i get anymore roll.i have hit a few 290 yrd carry drives with this one.some drives this year have been big,one at my home course was roughly 330 and at crieff i was averaging 284 with a duck hook and 3 wood off a few tee's.

it's almost an obsession i've got now with getting on a trackman but then i'm worried that the numbers won't add up,strange!!!

Wull I know your new but give yourself a shake..........who are you going to see. If it's not Scott Gourlay at Craigmillar park GC then it's not worth it. A bit harsh but if you hit the ball that hard Scott has tour shafts that very few club fitters have. He will not sell you a thing until you're sure it's what you want..trust me.

yeah thats the very man i've been in contact with.we've exchanged a few emails and it seems ideal and at a very reasonable price.

no need to give myself a shake mate, just being honest.

Tommo, that chap looks good, a lot of his site is under construction, have you used him? is he new and is there a cost?

Trackman is a wonderful piece of kit. It tracks the ball in real time, using missile technology, rather than making assumptions of how the ball reacts to the strike, from just a few measurements at impact. Ultimately you will get accurate data and that will be crucial if you are doing a club fitting.

You will enjoy the experience I'm sure

I've used him many times, he’s very enthusiastic and won’t sell you a thing unless he, and you of course, know its right. I could have easily walked away with a new set of irons a few months back. Instead he re shafted my existing ones. He has much more then the array of shafts on his web site.

Scott sorted my irons out to the point that every one was gapped correctly from the pitching wedge to the 4 iron.

The trackman session is usually about one hour or more and costs around £30. My set of Rifle shafts cost me £200, that included the session and fitting.

Cough, bull$hit Cough .....i'm gonna bite :D

Ok Lets have a reality check here. The PGA Tour average distance for the Pro's is 290.9 yards this year.

You sound genuine and sincere but the figures you quote are just silly. I hit a few 300+yard drives this year, but my average carry is more like 235yards according to Skycaddie.

Even the Bubba long guys at my club are more like 250yard Average Carry.

I think you do need the trackman session to confirm how far you dont carry the ball.

I'll be happy to eat my words if the trackman data backs you up:p

Good...I was talking about the last few words on your first post.........Anyway, Scott will sort you out.

the reason i was saying that is because someone i know was on a trackman and with a ss of 108 he was getting ball speeds of 160+ and carry distances of 290 and overall distances of 310-320 yrds.i thought that was a bit far for a speed of 108 and made me think it wasn't that accurate.i expect my swing from what everyone thinks to be around 110-115mph mark but i won't know for sure until i get on the trackman.

You carry the ball 270-290 yards and you are off 6? Do you chip and putt with a blindfold?

sorry can't help it either...

agree with the above, if you can consitentley carry 270-290 obviously it opens up most holes making them easy pars.

Unless you play at a very hard course?

i'd be surprised if these are your stats, though i do think it is worth you going for a trackman session on your handicap

well if you's had read my scottish newbie thread you would realise that i have came back to the game this year after a 10+ year lay off.i started the year at 9 and have worked my way down to 6 and i presume next year i will get down even lower but you never know.after such a lay off you can't expect me to come out all guns blazing and lets be honest just because you hit the ball far doesn't mean jack as it needs to be on the fairway to take full advantage of it.listen,i ain't going to come on here and bullshit you's all with my stats,i'm telling you the truth here, those are my yardages from using the gps and driving short par 4's,also using strokesavers this year at crieff, carrick and the dukes i was able to work out how far i've driven the ball.

here's a vid of me that i took at the start of the year so i've literally been playing for 2 weeks after my 10+ year lay off and i hit a big hook, borderline duck hook which travels roughly 250 yards.

my swing has came along way during the season and my accuracy is a lot better aswell, hence the better scores so hopefully next year i can take the blindfold off and get up and down more.

callander is a tough course, usually what ever you play off of you will be 2 or 3 shots better everywhere else.killin is tough aswell, you need to be accurate but both courses aren't that long,so length doesn't help much here unless you can hit it straight more often.

nice swing Wull:) a tad fast but looks good

cheers mate,i think i've slowed it down a bit on the back swing but tbh i don't know as i haven't seen it since then.like i said this was way back at the start of the year and it's all came good towards the end of the season.striking the ball much better aswell.

nice swing, i can see you hitting long

i think its worth you getting a trackman session, from my own experience i was surprised how much stiff shafts helped straighten me up, i use to hit it quite high and hooky before i was custom fitted

Trackman - a great tool to sense check distance and carrys thru your whole set. Also the deviance from straight line is also valuable info. I'll be havin a few pre-season sessions. But remember that range balls don't fly as far
