I attended a workshop at work the other day and by way of introduction we had to tell everyone a cool fact about ourselves.

Guy sat next to me said he was in a restaurant in Mumbai years ago when the Rolling Stones came in for dinner and asked for the restaurant to be closed. As he was already eating they 'allowed' him to stay then paid for his meal and gave him tickets for the upcoming gig!

Anyone else got any good ones?

In the early 1970's I got a lift home from a party from Chelsea footballer Peter Osgood.
I did not have a clue who he was and he practically had to tell me his name.
Fair play to him, he thought it was funny.

One for the over 40's.
My uncle emigrated to Australia in the late 60's and won the NSW surfing title some time in the early-mid 70's.
Family legend has it he's the surfer in the Old Spice advert.

You want another.
My brother and his missus won the lottery jackpot in 2001. Trying my luck I asked him for a BMW sports car for my birthday, he got me an airfix model Z3 or whatever it is.

Stayed in a hotel in Taormina, Sicily, which turned out to be owned by Jim Kerr of Simple Minds. He uses it a lot and was out there when we were. A bit surreal sitting down for breakfast to see him walk in in his dressing gown.

That aside, what a genuinely nice guy. Those that 'chased' him he was polite to. But those that let him do his own thing, he'd eventually join in conversation with and have a drink with. He has some fantastic stories of touring and of his time in Sicily.

The hotel, Villa Angela, was superb and had the biggest balconies I've ever seen in a hotel. All face Mt Etna about 15 miles away, which seemed to have smoke coming off it all the time.

One of my favourite 3 bands, Al.

Jim Kerr was a facebook "friend" for a year or so, and loved getting involved in footy banter. Me and him had a good few conversations about Kenny Dalglish being the Liverpool manager at the time. He always came across as a decent bloke and not pompous on there either.

Your Bro won the lottery and only bought you an airfix model? really?! wow, your bro is tight! I would pay my brothers mortgages off if i won!

Mortgage was the least I was expecting to be honest. On the night they told us they bought us fish and chips and we shared a bottle of champagne (tasted bitter). We had a bbq the day after and they bought their own burgers.
I don't see him often these days.

I did room service for Arnold Palmer during his last Open at St Andrews in 1995. He signed a programme for my old man and also gave us a 200 dollar tip at the end of his stay.

Also sat with Davis Love III's wife to watch a bit of the golf as she told my manager that I needed a break, and served Prince Andrew in his suite as well - after being patted down by his security before I was allowed to enter the room.

The first time I ever went to St.Andrews, I wound up playing the New Course with a local member, had a drink with him afterwards and then he helped me get on the Old Course later that day. Really top bloke. Always remembered his name.

In 2006 I joined a work golf society having moved companies and won their Scratch competition which was named after a former employee who had moved to St.Andrews.

Yep same person. We met up again in 2013 and he is now on the greenkeeping staff and was one of the guard of honour for Zach Johnson last year.
