Is it me or is Torrey Pines incredibly uninspiring. Apart from being perched on the Pacific coast, I really see little about it that is really "Wow". Maybe the camera shots don't do it justice, but some of the pictures make it look like a huge council recreation ground with the odd tree.

I was going to write something similar, but you have beaten me to it. Maybe some of the more traveled forumites that have played there can tell us more about it.

I get the feeling, the South course in particular, it's very tough; with narrow fairways (by tour standards) and punishing rough (again, by tour standards).

I wouldn't turn down a game though - and at $40, for a local, it's not a bad price.

Think that price is only for San Diego residents/ car licence holders. Non resident fees are closer to $300, when you ad the reservation fees to the green fee (https://www.torreypines.com/prices/ )

The south course, absolutely. Seems to be straight and long fairways for the most part.

North course looks a much better option for amatuers and as a golf experience, imo.

I would agree with the OP's comments, I went to the Farmer's Insurance in 2012 and whilst the views are stunning the course is a little "meh", probably with the exception of the 3rd and the 18th.

I have played the Emirates GC in Dubai where the ET is this week, when I was in the gulf with the RN, and I would much rather go and play there again.

I have played both courses and although the scenery and the weather are usually fantastic, the courses are not very inspiring and both are a bit of a slogging match with many unmemorable holes. If you play on a day where it is reasonably buys, which is most days, the pace of play is slower than evolution. There are much better public courses in the San Diego area.
