Morning, afternoon and evening all,

Any recommendations for a decent winter top, don't like wearing ones that are to tight i.e compression type ones, want something to give me a bit of heat during the colder months.

Also don't want to spend a fortune. Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Midnight....

I wear layers
Combinations of:
Long sleeve thermal vest, golf polo shirt, jumper, fleece, waterproof.
You can get a really good selection of different grades of fleece from Trespass or Mountain Warehouse. They cost a third of golf ones.
To keep your hands warm I would recommend a Zippo hand warmer.
Ski socks are a must; plus I have been known to wear long-Johns.

5 layers, blimey, can you even swing. I do Polo Shirt and Jumper and a wincheater if needed. It's all about the fit, loose and non restrictive is best. I'm still wearing a Ping waterproof jumper I bought 15 years ago, its awesome

if you keep your jacket on during the round then I'd go for some of the ski base layers they sell at decathlon. I wear them for golf and skiing. like you I don't like the compression type ones

Aldi Lycra roll neck shirts are good, always stick one of these on as a base layer, and have been far better than the more expensive branded ones from Golf Spec MFRs. cheap too under a £10, do them in Red, Navy, White and Black

Also need something to keep me warm bloody freezing atm!

Do you just wear your short sleeve polo *** over the base layer or is it better to buy long sleeve polos?

--edit socks also look good : https://www.decathlon.co.uk/socks-sh500-u-warm-mid-black-id_8346510.html

Lots of great lined jumpers these days that help keep out the wind and are still loose enough to swing in (even over a couple of layers). I have a few Ping ones but the FJ ones are really good
My SiL got me a FJ one for Christmas last year. I was a bit dismissive when I first got it but I have to say it is quite brilliant. I wore it a lot last winter and would highly recommend them.

AdamW, in answer to your last question I just wear a base layer then a standard short sleeve polo shirt over it. You are trying to keep your core warm, that is the key. If you keep that warm your arms will be fine with just standard tops on. I have never had problems with my arms if I go base layer, polo shirt, jumper, windproof if necessary. No need for long sleeve polo shirts, unless you like the look of them.
