Also need something to keep me warm bloody freezing atm!

Do you just wear your short sleeve polo *** over the base layer or is it better to buy long sleeve polos?

Multiple thin layers is always better mate. On the coldest days I wear one of these: https://www.sportsdirect.com/sondico-sonditherm-mock-neck-baselayer-top-mens-427416#colcode=42741603 With a normal polo over that, then my golf jumper over that. If it's really freezing an extra t-shirt in between the baselayer and polo would do it. Much prefer that than sticking a big padded jacket on which gets in the way. And I don't like too much on my arms either. I also add a snood round the neck which works wonders where you'd be a bit exposed there otherwise.

Might just be me but I don't really feel the cold in my legs so I just wear regular trousers. Most of the year I'm in shorts anyway so that's still a step up in warmth.

The Quechua fleeces are very good - very light but very warm. And cheap as chips. A decent base layer of some kind, and one of these fleeces is enough to keep me warm through most of winter. Only if it is really cold, or if there's a really biting wind, do I use an extra layer. Haven't used the other garments so can't say - but no reason to suppose they are not as good as the fleeces.
Edit: Ps. As with a lot of low cost brands, they tend to be cut a bit on the smaller side, so if you are not able to try one on in-store, then worth considering going up a size. I normally buy tops at XL, but for these I go 2XL
