Too old for gadgets?

Same as cross over cars, like the renault kadjar etc. Advertised to young trendy families, bought by pensioners because they are easy to get in and out of. Talk about poor targetting.

Id say that comes down to spare cash though

I would buy a cross over today if I wanted a new car.. just cant justify spending the cash right now.. and im hardly hard up like other parents

Does Alexa deal directly with spotify or do you have to use your phone / tablet? My kids have Apple music but they have to choose songs etc from their device, they can't just ask Alexa to play a particular song or album. I'd rather have the flexibility of asking, that's the simplicity of it. They don't want Amazon music but may crack for spotify.

You just pair up your Spotify account with Alexa once through the Alexa app on your phone and then off you go. Then you just ask Alexa and she will play as many guitar bands from the 1970s containing badly dressed old white blokes to satisfy even the most demanding golf forum member. ;)

Cheers HK. I'll look into that. As I say, at the moment I pair my phone with Alexa but have to manually choose my selections, how last decade, rather than asking Alexa to play them. It defeats the object really.

They do!

Yup, and with advances in AI it will get ever worse/better depending on your point of view. I just kind of accept it nowadays. I know there is the potential for it to get very sinister and there could be a lot of power in the hands of these companies.

But on the other hand I just think, who would I rather want to be be in charge of the future of nations and society, the increasing self serving blinkered 'in it for ourselves' power hungry politicians like Trump or people like Zuckerberg.

I trust Zuckerberg as much as Trump. Same with Apple and Google. Not one of them think of anyone but themselves and profit. There is an inevitability about data collection though and what they collect from me does not worry me.

With the microphones of these units permanently turned on you (or someone else) can control connected systems from outside you house, or from a coded message sent to an answering machine!

The security of the present generation of these voice controlled devices is pretty poor.

Hey, if they want to turn my heating up by a couple of degrees or play some Bachman Turner Overdrive on my stereo then they are welcome to try ;)

I don't know, I may be a bit naive and I know they are profit driven, but I think there is more of a philanthropic side to the big tech companies, especially once they are more than rich enough.

Where as politics seems increasingly an ideologically driven mission to stay in power by whatever means, even if that involves creating conflict and division between the people you are serving. And then imposing your ideas on everyone and completely disengage from anything or anyone who does not follow your doctrine. If a bunch of primary school kids acted as the US government is doing now with the shut down then we would tell them to grow up.

I have had my fair share down the years but the new stuff coming out is just beyond me.
Not technically but just..........why?

The latest thing I've seen and I've tried to like it is the 'Smart home'

Alexa, play spotify
Ok Google, turn on the tele.

I just can't get my head round talking to the appliances.

Or am I just too old?

No! Just too wise to fall for the salesman's tricks.
