Tom on Tiger

Spot on.

Its going to take a huge effort and a massive change in Woods to ever be as 'respected' as an individual as Tom Watson, imho.

I hope that he can do it, and one day, I can say that I like him, as well as I like his Golf.

Tom Watson got it spot on ,he needs to on Oprah Winfrey and apologise for being a dirty shagger, spill a few tears ,apologise to the wife and the sponsors then get his arse back playing golf with a bit of humility ,like signing kids hats ,programmes all the things that Mickelson does every week.

Right on the money.

Hopefully, this will all have been a huge wake up call for Tiger and that when he comes back we'll see the same golfer but a different person on and off the course. For his sake, his family, friends and for golf.

I cannot agree, like the current John Terry scandal, it really should be no-ones business but their own. They're not religious leaders who are supposed to be whiter than white (like an Irish priest?!) They're just guys who make a living being good at sport, and the sooner Tigers back the better.

Couldnt have put it better myself.

I am a big Tiger fan.

But these comments are spot on the money and spoken by a legend of the game Tiger should take note and apply the advice he is being given.

Totally agree with what Watson has said. However, the chances of Tiger coming back a more humble person are very slim indeed. He has always been arrogant, virtually from day one. He's got more money and ability than the rest. He no longer has his father to give him a right bollocking. He has as ar--hole of a caddy to defend his actions on the course. And he will feel that the world's media has got it in for him. I, for one, am not going to hold my breath awaiting the return of a humble Tiger.

For people living in the public eye and earning millions from the public's interest and for their entertainment, it becomes everyone's "business" as you put it.

No-one's saying (well, no-one with any sense) that they have to be whiter than white but you can't behave as John Terry and Tiger Woods have and not expect there to be consequences to your actions.

Tom's not saying he should be pure and innocent in his actions.

Just that when he does cock up, he should show ownership of his mistakes and have the humilty to apologise for his actions. If he comes back without either, then he WILL deminish the good name of golf. Like it or not, golf has made him very rich, and all it damands back off him is that he is it's ambassador ( dodgy chocolates and all ).

As an ambassador he has to admit that the game is more important than any one individual.

Tom went on to suggest that Tiger is also disrepectful to other golfers in some of his actions on the course. As he said, you can get away with acting like that as a kid, but Tiger is in his mid 30s now. He has to either start treating the game ( and maybe life ) with more respect, or he end his career with less respect given to him than the other greats receive, irrespective of how many Majors he wins.

Noone expects perfection, just respect, rather than arrogance. Even Faldo managed that, and some might say he was pretty arrogant at his worst.

I posted this on the "When will Tiger return?" thread. Unusually I seem to have had my finger on the pulse

My money is on him doing one of these big TV interview things, confess his sins and get a huge wave of public sympathy and then get back out there. The media will get loads more column inches, he gets a chance to make a "humble" apology to his fans and we all move on.

I agree totally with what Watson had to say

"And when he comes back, he has to show some humility to the public in the sense that, if I were him, it wouldn't be at a golf tournament where I would first come out."

He's coming out as well.....? :D

Seriously, these are wise words....humility - it's what he always lacked.
