And an Oirishman playing Rob Roy MacGregor. At least Gibson had a go at the accent.

Can't really complain though can we, with Shir Shawn playing a Russian submarine commander.

lol, anyone remember Ricky Fulton playing the head of the KGB in Gorky Park? "come here comrad...by the way 'n that"

Film might be worth watching if you don't know Jack as a pure action movie. The books are really good and as the tag line for Reacher goes "Jack Reacher is the man every woman loves, and every man secretly wants to be" Typical macho stuff as he nearly always beds the woman and smashes/kills people with ease.

Sounds awful!

Although I've seen the trailer and thought it looked OK, like others I had to google "Jack Reacher" to find out what craw was on about.

It's the movies though - suspend disbelief and all that. I was a big X-Men reader in my younger days and was horrified with the casting of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Tall, good looking guy playing the short, ugly berserker. Truth be told, that worked out OK.

Its wrong just plain wrong. It's like a high handicap golfer using a Miura lob wedge and a Pro V1!!!!

Inspired by this thread I've read a few of the jack reacher books. I quite enjoy them, some real page turners, good characters, don't need to think about it too much. I dare say I'll continue to work my way through them.

Tom cruise really isn't reacher, his size and physicality are an important aspect of his make up. However, I watched the movie last night and really enjoyed it. I actually thought, once you get over the height/build thing and an annoying tendency to needlessly explain things to people (for the audience's benefit really since you can't really get his thought process over as easily as you can in a book) that he did a good job of portraying the character!

I haven't read the books, so didn't have any preconceived ideas of how Reacher was supposed to look or behave. Thoroughly enjoyed the film.

I thought the film was the worst adaptation of a book I've seen in ages. Really poor casting, over acting, poor script, poor wardrobe (reacher in a leather jacket?). The only person to come out of it with any credit was Robert Duvall. Rubbish film. Waste of a good book.

Yeah! And if Tom Cruise is 5'7" tall I'm 6'4". (I'm not but I know a man who is and he wouldn't appreciate Tiny Tom being cast as him.)

Tom is good for the film business as he makes films that gets bums on seats... He likes making films here in the UK which all helps with employment... So I won't knock him even if he doesn't really fit as Jack Reacher... Yes, I have read the books though not seen the film...
