Had an hour's session today as progress on my winter project swing improvements are on the cusp of being right on the money :)

I'm buzzing, though not due to the improvements and the cracking numbers on the launch monitor, rather than just because I truly love this game. There is so much to learn and I've not even scratched the surface and I love the view and outlook of the journey ahead of me.

Plus I truly believe I have the best coach to join me on that journey.

Must get on and file my calluses now - how very attractive :o

I read the heading and thought "............. I've got to have a read of this" and its only about a lesson?

Had a similar feeling last night.

Went to the range and my ball striking, on the whole, was the best it's been forever, right up and down the bag (except for the shanked chip shots right at the end :D).

Not everything was going in the direction intended, but any bad shots were hooky or over drawed but mostly all were struck with conviction and came sweetly off the face.

Left high on confidence with hope that the work I've been putting in at the range to groove a better swing will transfer to the course once the weather picks up.

Yep, I had that feeling after my lesson last Wednesday, then went to the algarve for a long golf weekend on Thursday......and guess what, I couldn't swing to save my life.

glad its going soo well for you

sounds like your going to have a great season :fore:

i had a similar feeling this weekend, went for a lesson with a new pro,
id comfortably say its the best lesson i have ever had, and ive had a lot of them!

he videod my swing hitting a few shots on the range with a super high speed camera, went back inside at looked at the swing on a computer, talked about if for 10 or so minutes, finally back onto the range to make the adjustments.

then he emailed me a video of my swing in slow motion covering the points in the lesson, and comparing my swing to tour pro's, the video was 6 minutes long, so quite comprehensive

i don't see how i can go wrong! especially for 4 hour lessons at £60!

i really think this guy is going to get me down to single figures

The numbers by the end were text book! 7 iron, 140 yards but most importantly starting 2-3 degrees to the right and with a 300-500rpm draw spin. Or at least from memory I think that's right! Definitely starting right of target and draw spin. At the start of the lesson I was starting it left AND too much spin so a bit hooky. We got a bit more lag and a slightly later hit and bingo. Fact is the main delight was just in learning a little bit more, another layer of knowledge and looking ahead to much more of the same.

Coach is Paul Ashwell at Wyboston Lakes. He's quite simply a genius and a brilliant coach. In 2.5 years he's got me from seriously considering quitting golf and not even close to a 36 handicap to where I am now (which is usually playing to around a 10 handicap).

Onwards

this him? http://www.ashwellgolf.co.uk/

ooks impressive, £90 per hour seems quite expensive though but I suppose if he's that good you'll reap the rewards

That's him and yes he is that good. For me it's amazing value for money and without him I wouldn't be playing (and loving) this game. I had tried a few coaches before him and wasn't progressing, yet one lesson with Paul and I knew my future was going to involve a lot of golf and a lot of fun.

I know what you mean, when I first went to Adam Hunter (he coached Paul Lawrie) it was a revelation, proper REAL coaching about what a REAL swing should be. Sadly Adam was diagnosed with a terminal disease that year and passed away a few months ago, R.I.P

I STILL only practice what he taught me and when I do what he says the quality of the strike brings a smile to my face.

look forward to seeing that handicap tumble Amanda

Oh that's so sad but you couldn't honour his memory in any finer a way than rejoicing in a perfectly struck golf shot.

Edit - it took me a while to see it as the lessons were layers of knowledge one atop the other but after about a year I said to Paul "you're teaching me proper golf" and he smiled and said "rumbled"

Had a tricky lesson on Saturday trying to implement some changes. Managed a quick bucket after the lesson to work on a drill and then the snow came. I'm off to the range later to begin the real work. I hope it falls into place as the ball striking I was getting in the lesson was great.
