it was very poor:(:(:( not only my golf but everyone who was playing int he 36 hole strokeplay, more so down to the fact that it's the start of the season and no one is match fit as they say.

the first round i started off with a double bogey and had a treble on the 6th after a few silly mistakes.i went out in +7 and then started to play decent golf.i still made a few silly mistakes but finished the back 9 +2 and was +9 overall and to my amazement i was lying 3rd out of 15 or so.

so for the 2nd 18 i was in the last group,3 back from the leader and 1 back from the guy in 2nd and it went drastically wrong on the 1st hole:confused::confused:

i hit a sort of blocked drive which sliced a little, still ended up ok.i found the ball as some tree's blocked my view from where it went but it was sitting perfectly,i couldn't of placed it any better and i was roughly 75yrds from the pin.i then german tanked it into the heavy crap and then was still in the crap at about 8 or 9 strokes and then picked up and walked in.........absolutely gutted.i was more peeved off about the shank, wtf was that all about.i don't know why it happened but it cost me dearly and i could probably go back to the same spot and hit 10o balls without doing it.

it was non-counting today because of 4 temp greens but i'm scunnered....not happy.

Like you say, its the start of the season, the course is being worked on and there was some good stuff in there to be in the last group. However I'm sorry but walking in because you had a bad hole stinks.

how do you work that one out,why continue?it was non counting so i don't go up and i can't get cut.i was well out of it as a 10+ would of put me in a foul mood and might of effected my playing partners who were in with a shout of winning it....

it meant i could get out of there and get on with my day elsewhere....

says who?i never usually do this but and i am never one to question other people who do it either,if they want to walk in then so be it,makes no difference to me.

god forbid if you's have ever walked in and obviously you both would say you have never walked in.

I have walked in but that was in a social game. I just think its bad form to do so in a competition qualifier or not. I've racked up cricket scores (not broken 100 with ease) and come rank last but stayed out there until the final putt. Didn't think it fair on my partners to just up clubs and give up

It's a kick in the jewels to start a season like this and I feel your pain beleive me, but like others have said no matter how low I don't walk off, on stinkers I normally put everything in my bag (balls/tees etc) and try and enjoy the walk with a bit of banter.

Early season is usually a good time to get cut if your low. Scores and SSS often goes up as the course is playing longer so the trouble is back in the right place for tee shots. The fact that is soft can help make up for the length as the longer hitters can still reach the greens and even using a club or 2 more the ball will still stop, if you can get it close enough not to 3 putt you don't need to have to worry so much about ropey greens.

Imo if you enter a 36 hole comp, it should be with the intention of completing 36 holes barring injury, lightning or exceptional circumstances. I'd say walking in is bad form unless it is a group decsion to all come off. It's not fair on your playing partners who tend to be left getting held up by the groups in front and have to wait longer as they are 1 less in their group (think 4 hour rounds are bearable in a 4 ball, not so nice in a 2 ball). Just N/R and carry on if you're worried and in a bad mood about your score.

Agree , bad form to walk in. I shot a 95 nett 90 yesterday ( worst round in 3 years ) and not once did it occur to me to walk in, as they say down this way ' Man up "
Went out today and shot 75 nett 70 , golf eh , dont ya just love it

Tough luck Wull but it is early in the season.

Have to agree with the walking in/quitting sentiments though. I so wanted to call it quits yesterday as I was playing so badly I wanted the ground to swallow me up or to sit down and have a darned good blub. On the 15th I was tempted to say to my partners that I'd walk in with them but just put me down for blobs for the last 4 holes but didn't and tried to keep cheerful for them despite the deafening silence as I hit another shocker. I scraped a par on the 15th and bogeys on 16 and 17. Great drive on 18 and then some idiot played my ball but wouldn't fess up so that finished my day quite perfectly.

As you like my favourite running mantra so much here's another couple...

Pain is temporary but quitting lasts for ever.
There's only one thing worse than carrying on and that's quitting.

You say you played badly, but then so did everyone one else and it's early in the season and nobody is sharp. Were you aiming a touch high then?

One shot cost you dearly but that happens. Learn from it and move on. Did it cross your mind to declare you ball unplayable and drop it out within the rules?

i should have but i was in such a foul mood after hitting that terrible shot that i never thought of doing that.

lock it away and forget it mate , you have the game , you know that , everyone has the odd stinker thrown in , just put it to rights the next day you head out mate ..

As for walking in? as it was non qualifier & even tho its not something id do, i dont see a problem in it, your score or non score as it maybe wont affect anyone or anything.. i turn them rounds into practice games for myself , try different shots that i wouldnt normaly in a round ...

Having read your posts re your game over the time here im fairly sure your the type to brush this off & as you have already said , you wouldnt do it in another 100 shots .. chin up dude , nail it next time

RUBBISH,all this its early in the season etc etc and not mach fit.what have you been doing over winter playing on the x-box ( insert your own game consul here) and neglecting the practice first proper comp yesterday CAPTAINS V PRESIDENTS won 6 and 5,first comp of the season to-day came 3rd with 39 points (6.6 h/c ) so all the practice over winter paid off.
