TM sldr

My two pennies worth;

I think they annoyed a lot of people treating this as a brand new idea after the Mizuno 600/630 drivers had essentially the same thing 5 years ago.

I also think the slogan about 'innovation doesn't wait' thing will have got people's backs up as it sets a precedent for them bringing out a new driver as soon as they make up their next prototype.

All in all, it's probably a good driver. It may or may not be better than the R1/RBZ II but I think that even the most loyal TM customers are going to start to get a bit wound up when their £300 driver has depreciated to £100 in two months cos there's a new model coming out.

Like I say, probably a really good club, or the pro's wouldn't have put it in the bag as quickly as some of them did, but sends the wrong message IMHO and if anything creates less brand loyalty.

When I buy a driver I expect to have it in the bag for several years and as a result I don't expect it to be worth much when I come to replace it. anyone who buys a new driver every 12 months is fuelling TMs drive to release products so often and can't therefore complain that they depreciate in value so quickly.

TM always made decent drivers and i only switched from my TM r7 425 due to it breaking, which is about to happen to my current driver!!!, its started to make a funny noise.

Stop Press! Patrick's finally found the middle!

As for the SLDR. This as entirely predictable! TM has been releasing multiple Drivers each year for some time!

Anyone who is actually sucked in by their Marketing deserves to be fleeced imo!

I've had quite a 7 TM Drivers and they've all been pretty good, though the R7 425 (my last TM) was a disappointment - for me.

The quarterly chorus of 'How does TM get away with it' is quite amusing too!

I can't believe people are so bothered about it.
If you currently have a driver that you like it shouldn't affect you.
If you are in need of a new driver you can try all of the clubs on the market and choose the one that's best for you.

Remember people, you don't have to buy the new TM driver if you don't want to!

play another record fellas:rolleyes:

Business's bring out new products to sell and.....wait for it.....make money:smirk:

it's not a charity, they are not trying to provide a needed 'service' and they are in a dog eat dog world where their rivals would put them out of business if they could................

Stop bleating about new clubs coming out too quickly for you and rejoice in the fact you actually have lots of choice to get something that suits you the consumer

Regardless of what you think of TM for releasing so many products I think it is fair to say the majority who have tries them/use them think they are excellent quality. How many club players use them? Lots. How many pros not sponsored by TM use them? Lots! Donald, snedeker etc others like Louis oosthuizen who's a ping pro has carried their woods and hybrids too!
I don't have any TM clubs but the fact so many folk at every level are using them makes me think there is quality behind the marketing.

Eye, and can you imagine the joy TM give the magazine editors. There they are looking at a blank page in the New Gear section, wondering how to fill it. And month after month along comes TM to the rescue.

I tells you, I'm glad I don't live in a world where manufacturers release new clubs every 2 years, can you imagine how boring the mags would be then? ;)

Well I currently have 0 TM clubs in the bag but I am interested to have a hit with this.
TM's Sliding weight apparently was patented before Mizuno and the idea is slightly different here. The Mizuno took the weight around the rear perimeter of the club while the TM has the weight low and towards the face which significantly helps lower the CoG, Increase launch angle and reduce spin. I guess this made the Mizzy a bit more forgiving but not as effective on good hits?!
The main point of interest was a point in an interview with a TM guy who said this driver feels as solid as the R510 which I have several of to mess around with and only stopped using a year or so ago. The 510 TP was a great driver and am looking forward to seeing how this measures up. Little surprised with the statement though as to me he is admitting that all the drivers in between don't feel that great but this probably doesn't affect performance overall.
We have a demo day up ours on Friday and will pop along in the hope they have some there. Might even hit some if my shoulder feels ok but might take a small miracle for that to happen the way it feels now!

no ones bleating mate, just questing their marketing strategy. Flooding the market has worked until now, to the degree that it's now the norm......however they are in danger of leaving their customer base behind imo. New releases are met with a degree of cynicism, and they can't keep chasing new customers, eventually they will run out, in what is after all, a mature market.

How can this new driver be their longest? it doesn't have a speed slot, it has a shorter shaft than the RBZ and isn't white.... all of which I was led to believe was crucial last time around.

It's like their marketing department have collective amnesia :o

I do agree with Hackers point, that the industry needs new regular launches to feed itself, but they've lost me and a few others

sell out !!!!

Haha!

I am not a huge fan out their marketing strategy by any means Nick and having been to one of there brain storming sessions I can only say that I doubt it'll stop anytime soon.

I'll be looking at different shaft options for sure though! the 61g might do me some good at the moment though. I might get two so I can shove an 80+ grams XX in for when I'm fighting fit.
The Speeder 757 was the shaft in the 510TP so they might have heavier options without a big excess.

I find out tomorrow if they will have them, and then on Friday look out for a 'I have the answer' thread. I think this SLDR could be a club not to be missed!
In 3 months time the white version will bump the price down on the black one and then we'll only be 3 months away from SLDR Stage 2 'SLDRier'.

I have tried TM drivers and liked the quads but the latest stuff I cannot get on with, so I don't seek them out. I bought a titliest because I had never had enough money to own one, that was okay. The Ping stuff is okay and has served me well, the callaway razr fit, was just weird. Now I am off to try the cleveland, the deep face concept reminds me of older TM creations ... So we will see but it won't be a TM club I am afraid.

If they have managed to get more distance by doing something other than lengthening the shaft then I would actually be interested.

As for speed slots then I thought that you could not have them on any driver nowadays as they would take them over the limit of whatever they are limited by?

you could be right re the speed hole......must pay more attention to the marketing, damn:D:D
