TM at it again!

I bought an R11 driver, to replace the wooden Christy O'Connor wood I was using, shortly after the R11s came out, I tried it, it was nice, but not nice enough to warrant me trying to sell my R11 and find the difference to pay for the R11s. Even with the R11s coming down in price it's still not an attractive enough price to make me change.

When I get a handicap, when, and said handicap gets down towards the single figure mark, I'll look to change my clubs, as by that time technology will have moved on enough so that even with my wild slice and erratic swing the club will have the ball going straight and over 400yds.

From my end its all good, I don't buy TM gear as (someone else said it above) the shafts always feel a bit Mattel to me. I would not care if they brought out new kit every week, I don't own a shop I am a consumer. My hope is that the keep moving technology forward little by little. I am sure they will keep doing what they are doing, I am sure they sell more clubs than anyone else, why would you not, they have shareholders to pay. It would be a little dull if all the manufactures had the same plan.

I seem to remember TM bringing 4 (at least 3) models out one year. That's when they 'lost' loads of Pro Shops - who made about £15 from each full price one they sold and had to discount their 'old' stock, which they'd paid full price for, when the new model came in!

Ping and Mizuno appear to have a much more Pro Shop friendly way of marketing. Not sure which camp Callaway fits.

I dont use Taylormade as I can't get on with their stuff. I would be happy though if a new shiny came out because I would only have to wait a year to get it half price when the next big thing came out.

i have used the same clubs for 10 years (new grips ) and still find they do what i want,i shoot in the low to middle 70's on a good day and high 70's low 80's on a bad one,i have had them tweaked as i have got older and my swing a little stiffer but they are still a quality club even by to-days standard, ping i3 blades.

This all comes down to one thing......profits. While people will keep updating every year they will keep doing this.

As you will see in my signature all my kit is TM. I love the stuff and always been open minded to other manafacturers, but never really found anything to take me away from them. But I am very tempted with a set of MP59s. I tried Cally, Ping, Titty, Cobra, Mizuno when I got my R11s. The only other driver out of all of them I would have considered would have been the Cobra, I got the R11s though, but that is my preference.

In my opinion while people are daft enough to buy into all the hype about the new driver and change every year, TM will keep updating as often as possible.

Still note sure why everyone sees it as a TM thing. Cobra released the Amp only á year after the S3, Nike release a new VR driver every year, Cleveland update the Launcher range every year, Callaway released the Razr fit only a year after the Razr Hawk. It may be that TM started it but everyone is doing it. Even Titleist are at it, the 910 is not much over a year old and the 913 is on the way.

You sure about that? They were out around October? of 2010. Hence the name............

May be wrong but did some googling and the reviews were coming out around March 2011. Happy to put my hand up if I have been incorrect on that one but the general point is valid in that most companies release new products every year and not just TM

I don't know what the real issue is here.

If market forces tell them its good business to bring out another new club and that it can supersede the existing one in any particular way, then so be it.

Its working as far as brand awareness is concerned as its being discussed worldwide on forums no doubt just like we are!

Football clubs do it with new kit every year even with the same sponsors, car owners change to get the latest and newest reg on the road at midnight not to mention the latest phone and so-on and there will always be those with deep pockets that always want the best new thing that's out to hang out proudly of their beloved bag.

The plus side is for those that tried and always wanted the RBZ but it was just out of budget, there will plenty available either as shops dump their dead older stock and even better bargains from those described above who will want to get rid of little used gear for the latest product.

I'm also in the it's not TM's fault camp. As has been highlighted, most manufacturers look/ need to change a line in order to drive sales forward. No difference whether it's golf clubs, cars, shoes, jeans etc.

You don't have to buy it, those that want to will, and those that don't will moan about the constant changes :ears:

I've been looking to replace my Nike hybrids for about 6 months now, but not found anything better......until now. I've actually been trialling a RBZ hybrid over the last three rounds and found it absolutely excellent off the fairway. The 4 Hybrid I've been trying has out distanced my Nike 2 hybrid by a good 20+ yards on occasion. I appreciate that that is most likely down to my swing, but never the less, I hit the 4 over 200 yds consistently, which is what I usually do with my 2. I'm thinking of buying one but will now wait until the prices drop a bit.

'TM bringing new kit out' is a news headline in the same category as 'politician tells porkies'. Hardly a shocker.

The RBZ has been a big success for them, but they wanted to put a speed slot in the top as well as the bottom, but were prevented from doing so because Adams owned some IP on the design. Now TM owns Adams, so I suspect RBZ 2 may have a speed slot on the top too. For another 17 yards of distance, naturally.

No one holds a gun to our head and forces us to purchase them, I've got the RBZ driver but it's the first proper driver I've ever bought and I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon!!!

If it stops working for me then it's my swing and I'll address the problem instead of running out and buying the next super rocket MK5.

Hahaa brilliant, they may get a new marketing team on it and get another 18 yards !!!

Ahhh you sound very sensible, problem with TM is they prey on the consumer society in which we all operate now, our hobby (obssession??) is golf so naturally a lot of us will spend some of our disposable cash on it, if you are a tm FAN then the temptation is there and some will crack.

Thats another reason I went to Mizuno/Titleist, course they bring new stuff out so you have to resist, just not as much.

TM will just extend the shaft by another 0.5 inch, make it lighter or make the loft stronger. They'll probably have a 16 degree three hybrid next year. Then compare with a Nike/Titleist 3 hybrid that has 21 degrees of loft :mmm:

That's funny as I tried a lot too and for me it was between the R11S and the Cobra AMP, but the R11S came out slightly better.

I agree that as long as people keep updating every time something new comes out then they won't stop bringing new gear out, and tbh why should they. They are making good money from it, and at the end of the day selling golf clubs is a business after all.
