Titleist CB Irons

I've got the CB's on order, 7 iron to pitching wedge, plus AP2's in the 6 & 5 irons, and the TMB 4 iron.

The 716 CB's are supposedly more forgiving than the 714 AP2's, but I can't judge as I only hit a few shots with one of those.

If your choice is a Titleist of some sort or a GI club, I'd look at the AP1 or 2 before going near the CB. There is very little offset (the main reason the fitter put me in the CB), the head isn't big and they won't inspire much confidence if you're struggling, hence why I've gone for the AP2 & TMB at the top end.

I don't struggle to hit my irons so should be no issue on the confidence front, but I'm also realistic so a split set is something I am definitely looking at as I carry up to a 4 iron and in the long run CB 4&5 irons might be a bit much to live with day to day.

Spotted a mint 714 CB 6 iron on eBay so grabbed that and will see how I get on with that for the next few months.

Currently play 712mbs. But could do with more forgiving iron at times. Had initial titleist fitting and looked at 716 AP2 ( thinking if pros use these ... Why not) and the 716cb. The cb was a revelation. Tried 4-5 shafts in both models but stuck with my current kbs tour stiff. I just couldn't get good outcome from AP2, pro fitter says he sees that fairly frequently, wider sole doesn't work with swing. The CB carried 8-9 yds further than my 712mb; I was getting 159 yd with the CB 7i. Nice enough but it was the dispersion which was mostly noticeably pleasing much better than comparison to my 712s. Even over an hour I was pretty sure it was more forgiving, but with good flight and feel. Want another couple tries before I jump for a 5-PW set, not sure about 4i, choice of CB or the TMB, that's the hardest choice i reckon.

I play with a mixed bag of 712 MB's and CB's. I love the feel and the CB feel just as pure as the MB, just with a bit more forgiveness. If your a pretty consistent striker of the ball then get a set because they are a lovely looking club at address and feel amazing to hit.

But all said and done, I'm getting some new irons in January and it will be a toss up between the 716 AP2 and the PSi TOUR. I just like the way these clubs have a nice compact design, but offers lots of forgiveness compared to a set of CB's. I have had a swing with the AP2 and compared them to my clubs. 5i v 5i, I set up to hit shots from all over the face and the AP2 performed so much better. It is for this reason I can see why many tour players are now switching to these types of clubs.

I think with these style of clubs you are going to see MB & CB clubs become a thing of the past. Who wouldn't want a club that looks and feels like a forged CB, but gives you the forgiveness of a GI iron.

Lad I played with today had a set of CB 716 in his bag.

Compared to my AP2 710's they are thinner and look less forgiving. I was thinking of getting some of the new CB's, but after seeing them for real I would never consider it.

For anyone over about scratch handicap I would say don't bother.
