Right, so off I go to Tandridge GC to try out a load of drivers with one of the pros, thinking I'd go for a Taylormade R11 or Superfast, but maybe the Titleist

Taylormade R9 (no R11 in stock) - very nice flight, but found it a little lively and lacking control.

Taylormade Superfast - horrible! Felt it was sitting very, very flat and although the white head didn't bother me, it wasn't right. In either stiff or regular.

Mizuno JPX800 - Regular flex and it was truly awful for me. No control whatsoever and just felt "dead".

Titleist 910 D2 - what a club! This thing was truly awesome. Lovely ball flight and control, with a Diamana 'ilima 71 shaft.

Now, I don't want to turn this into a "how far I can hit it" thread, but from comparing it with my Ping G5 offset (stock regular shaft) which I really think has been holding me back, I was told it was going some 30 yards further. Carry!

So, will be calling them tomorrow to buy it!

Then I'll do a proper review.

Then I'll put it in the garage cos it'll misbehave! Golf's a fickle mistress! ;) (I hope this last bit doesn't come true!)

I've had mine for 2 weeks now and LOVE IT!!!

You will too Bratty
Cheers, Chris.

Have you played around with the settings yet?

Had mine now for about 3 weeks or so and only really just getting used to it now but it is absolutely fantastic and I think a bit longer than the 909 D2, had a play with the settings but if I open it at all it is mental slicey. I think the only thing I would change is the loft setting which does make a difference to me anyway!

Sure have Bratty, at the range and for some games at my course. I bought it with D2 as the preferred setting and played D1, and A1 and it pretty well does as it should on all settings. I played yesterday on D2 and shot about 79 yesterday (4BBB so some gimees added in) with all my drives being from acceptable to fantastic.

It'll be a good buy Bratty.
I'm still not as good with mine as I'd like but it's waaaaay more consistent than any driver I've had since the original Great Big Bertha!!
Currently sitting on C3 until the fairways firm up a bit then I'll drop it to B2.

Enjoy

Bratty, id try the r11 as well if nothing more than to eliminate any doubt. Just getting to grips with mine now its set up and for the first time EVER sunday i outdrove the longest player in our club buy about 15 yards, im normally about 15-20 behind him. :o

either way it seems the R11 & 910 have a massive following this yeah, enjoy what ever you purchase fella.

Doubt was eliminated by trying the Superfast and not liking the white head.

I'd probably get used to it, but just felt why affect the psychology of the game further! ;)

I had a go with an R11 at the weekend when a guy at the range let me borrow his. The feeling off the face was pretty much the same as my Titleist but I prefer the black over the white head so really pleased that I got it right for me

chris, what range was it........ i let someone have a rip with mine saturday too.

Bratty, having come from the burner range across to the r range one thing is clear to me, the R is alot heavier, their like chalk and cheese, if we get out for a game your welcome to rip mine although no skying it please!

yup loving my D2, had second lesson on it last night and bedded the technique in a bit more, suddenly hitting the ball out the park and the sound when you hit it just-so is absolutely marvellous

Good to see another member of the 910 club :)

I've had mine for just over a month and i really can't fault it.

Since i've got it i've easily knocked a good few shots off, i know my generall game is better but i do seem to find alot more fairways since i bought it.

Just out of curiosity a lot of the D2\D3 users are reporting greater distance and accuracy than their previous drivers.

How old was you're previous driver ? Did many of you upgrade from a newish model like the R9, 909 etc

I'm just trying to ascertain how good the driver really is.

If most people were upgrading from an oldish driver then I'd expect most of the decent new drivers to give much better distance and accuracy.

But if people are coming from last years models then it does sound like a real step forward.

I used to have a Ping G5 offset, 10.5 deg stock shaft in regular, bought in 2009, but essentially at least one year older than that.

So I'm not surprised at the difference between them.

However, on the same day, warmed up and everything, I hit the others mentioned and they were nowhere near as good for me. So I was surprised by that.

But I think that's the rub, so to speak. What works for me...

Upgraded from the 909 D2 as the shaft "ahem" broke
:o in mine. It is not miles further but a bit 10yards or so but it is much better on off center hits

I feel there's only so much they can "legally" do with a clubface, so almost all of the benefits are down to the right shaft these days.

Mine went so well today I just love it! We will have to compare notes at Auburns meet next Friday
