Tips on staying mentally strong.

Imurg, yes i get 4 strokes, looking at the scorecard though, i only see one hole which i normally c**k up. id so much rather take the shots on a couple of other holes.... but hey ho ;)

The rest of the 4 shots are given on long holes, which providing im in play i should hit the green in 2 without much hassle.

I suppose im pressuring myself as i havent played a knockout comp since i was a junior around 15 years ago, lets just enjoy the round.

Can I suggest that by thinking the way that you are atm, the one thing you are not going to do by the time the game starts is to just 'go out and enjoy the round'.

Not for the first few holes at least.

May I recommend a game plan, for those first few holes, that you know will maximise your result for the minimum of hand/eye coordination, until the nerves settle.

Personally I'd go for the 3/4 swing. You'll be deliberately hitting it slightly less yardage than your normal game ( although you might be pleasantly surprised ) so you wont get into the mental position of trying to force any shots, and thus ensuring you keep the ball in play.

If you go onto the practise ground and practise with a) your feet together, and b) using a narrow stance and ensuring a balanced followthrough, you'll maximise the thought of a smooth swing, with minimum body sway/excess movement etc.

Concentrate on a good shoulder turn, and a balanced finish, and hopefully the ball will have dissappeared somewhere in between the two.

ill be on the range for half hour earlier that morning just to losen up. not to hit peaches, not to set the range on fire, but like you say to losen up, relax, and work on making sure the basics are there. Might nip up for a twilight game friday night :-D
